Today Only (offer ends at 11:59 PM EST):
The Southwest Rapid Rewards Portal is currently offering 6 bonus points per dollar at Staples. They also have JC Penney at 9X, but that (to me) is less exciting)…
Of course, since this is an office supply store, you can pay with a Chase Ink card and earn an additional 5 points per dollar for a total of 11X! To earn even more than 11X, buy e-gift cards to other merchants, then go through a portal to that merchant and buy stuff using those gift cards!
Notes:
- You do not have to pay with a Southwest Airlines credit card
- Points earned from the portal count towards the Southwest Companion Pass.
- Points earned from your Chase Ink card do not count towards the Southwest Companion Pass even if you transfer points to Southwest
- If you purchase Visa gift cards or Staples gift cards you most likely will not earn portal points. In my recent experience, though, gift cards to other merchants (Sears, Whole Foods, etc.) do earn points.
- It can take anywhere from days to weeks for points to show up from portal purchases.

So Target gc should work from the Staples site?
Yes
…any suggestions for stuff to buy with the merchant gc that could be easily resold (ebay, Amazon, etc) to minimize cost of all these miles?
There is a current deal on Slickdeals about a Fire TV + WD 1TB hd + $25 Visa GC all for like $125. Visa GC makes it $100, so you should be able to profit reselling the Fire TV and WD 1TB hd.

“Not eligible on gift cards, gift certificates or any other similar cash equivalents including third party gift cards sold by Staples.com.”
Is this the typical “Terms and Conditions” language for purchasing via the RR portal for Staples.com?
I believe that is standard language for Staples for a while now, but experiments have shown that bolded part not to be true in practice. YMMV
Thanks. I’ve got a few paid Southwest trips coming up, so this will be EXCELLENT way to earn 17x RR points on my flights!
Purchase: $350 in SW e-gift cards
6x Staples.com RR Portal bonus
5x Ink Plus
6x earning on Southwest when I book my $350 worth of flights.
Thus, my $350 RT Southwest trip will earn 5,950 points total (the equivalent of $99.17 worth of SW airfare). That is 28.3% off my fare, effectively.
Should I take a chance in buying 5 X $206.95 VISA Gift Cards at Staples
thru Southwest portal using the Ink Plus card & hope to get the 6X points
thru the portal. What are the chances?
No, I wouldn’t recommend that. Please see the notes in this post
What portal do you use?
I’m not sure what you mean? This post is about the Southwest Rapid Rewards portal and has a link to it.
