Quick Thoughts
Amex Offers like these are one reason I like to have at least one Amex business card as this doesn’t appear to be available on personal cards. Having said that, the recent Lowe’s offer was seemingly only available on business cards as well, although there were reports that some people received it on a personal card, so that might be the same thing here.
Staples tends to run Visa or Mastercard gift card deals once or twice a month, usually by waiving the $6.95 activation fee on $200 cards. Paying with a card with this Amex Offer loaded to it will turn a break even deal to one that’s profitable. Otherwise, Staples sells a wide variety of gift cards in-store and online, so that’s another option. The terms exclude bulk purchases of gift cards, but regular gift card purchases are fine. This offer is valid until the end of June, so there’s plenty of time to take advantage of it.

Didn’t get the Lowe’s but got this for Staples. Will definitely wait until they have a fee free sale on the visa gift cards.
What is considered bulk purchases? Anything more than 1 per transaction?
No, several gift cards in the same transaction is fine. Bulk purchases refers to something different – I think it’s some kind of corporate arrangement.
Just FYI, I have a Hilton Biz Card, and the T&Cs state you will not get Hilton points for the purchase of gift cards. You can still get the 10 percent off the purchase… just no points.
Thanks for the heads up – that sucks.
Bummer, Staples has removed AMEX express checkout as a payment option. This was the only avenue to use an AMEX with a Hawaii billing address.

I got the Lowe’s offer but not this Staples one on a Green (personal) card. Anyway, loving these offers. Stack the 10% with 20% at Amazon, by buying Amazon GCs at Lowe’s/Staples, and then using those to buy at Amazon (even Lowe’s/Staples gift cards!) at an effective 28% discount.
Got this!
