Keep an eye out for an email from American Express as some cardholders have reported receiving an opportunity to earn 20,000 Membership Rewards points when enrolling in Pay Over Time.
If you’re targeted for this offer, it’ll likely be the easiest 20,000 points you’ve ever earned. I was targeted for a previous iteration of this offer a couple of years ago, but that one only awarded 10,000 points. That was still a nice little bonus, so enrolling in Pay Over Time in exchange for 20,000 points would be a no-brainer for me.
If I recall correctly the points were awarded pretty quickly, so if you don’t want to remain enrolled in Pay Over Time you can unenroll after the points show up in your account. Although it should be fine to do that as soon as the points are awarded, it might be worth giving it a few days or weeks before unenrolling because, y’know, Amex.
There used to be a registration link which could be used to see if you were targeted to earn a bonus when enrolling in Pay Over Time, but I don’t think that works any longer. You’ll therefore have to keep an eye on your emails to see if you get this 20k offer. There’s a chance it’ll show up in the Amex Offers section of your charge cards when logged in on the Amex website or app, so it’d be worth perusing that too just in case.

I also got the popup when I logged into the AMEX on 03/01/21 for 20K and I jumped on it right away. The points posted in my account on 03/02/21.
FYI, I received an email for the 10k version on 02/26/21. I’m so glad I waited for the better offer.
I had this show up as a popup box when I logged into my Amex account from my laptop on Monday (March 1). The 20,000 points showed up in my MR points activity the next day. It wasn’t clear from the popup which card it was talking about, but it activated pay over time on my Amex Gold (open since Nov 2019). My Platinum still doesn’t have it activated.
