(Targeted) Spending offers on United cards; stack with other Q1 spending offers

8

United is targeting some cardholders with an offer giving bonus miles when hitting spending thresholds in February, March and/or April, with additional bonus miles available if you hit those spending thresholds in all three months.

Even better – potentially – is that this will stack nicely with the separate Q1 spending offers on cobranded Chase cards if you were lucky enough to be targeted for one of those too.

United card Chase spending offers

The Deal

  • Spend $x in February, March and/or April on a targeted United credit card and earn x bonus MileagePlus miles. Earn an additional bonus when meeting those spending requirements for all three months.
  • Direct link to registration to see if you’re targeted. Aloha808 has also shared in the comments that some people are able to register in the United app even if that link doesn’t work for them.

Key Terms

  • To be eligible for this bonus offer, you must click the button in this email or log on to united.com/MonthsOfMilesBonus to register.
  • Register by April 15, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. CT. Register in the month of February and your purchases will count toward your total spending from February 1, 2024, through April 30, 2024. Register in the month of March and your purchases will count toward your total spending from March 1, 2024, through April 30, 2024. Register in the month of April and your purchases will count toward your total spending from April 1, 2024, through April 30, 2024.
  • All purchase transactions must be posted by the merchant by the last day of the month.
  • You will qualify for and receive bonus miles if you make purchases with your credit card as designated by your personalized offer. If you make the number of purchases and spend the designated amount for February by February 29, 2024, you will receive the number of bonus miles designated for this month. If you make the number of purchases and spend the designated amount for March by March 31, 2024, you will receive the number of bonus miles designated for this month. If you make the designated number of purchases and spend the designated amount for April by April 30, 2024, you will receive the number of bonus miles designated for this month.
  • You are only eligible for the additional bonus miles designated in this offer if you make the number of purchases and spend the designated amount for each of the three months, February through April.
  • Delays by the merchant, such as shipping, could extend the transaction date beyond the offer period.
  • Please allow 6–8 weeks after the promotion ends on April 30, 2024, for bonus miles to post to your MileagePlus account.
  • (“Purchases” do not include balance transfers, cash advances, traveler’s checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, or fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable.)
  • To qualify for this bonus offer, account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment.
  • Credit card product changes during the promotional period will forfeit this bonus offer.
  • This promotional offer is nontransferable and applies only to the account ending in the last four digits referenced in this offer.

Quick Thoughts

As you can see from the terms, the details of this offer are personalized – if you even get an offer at all. On my United Gateway (no annual fee) card, I got the following spending offer:

  • Spend $500+ in February & earn 1,000 bonus miles
  • Spend $500+ in March & earn 1,000 bonus miles
  • Spend $500+ in April & earn 1,000 bonus miles
  • Spend $500+ in each of those months & earn 2,000 additional bonus miles

That means there’s 5,000 bonus miles up for grabs when spending $1,500 – a 3.33x return. That’s not bad, but it can potentially get even better if you were also targeted for one of Chase’s Q1 spending offers. I was fortunate enough to get one of those on my Gateway card too – 5x on up to $1,000 spend at gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants. Those Q1 offers only partially overlap as they end on March 31, whereas these new United-specific spending offers end on April 30.

It could still end up being very rewarding nonetheless. If I was to spend $500 on gas, groceries and/or dining in both February and March, then $500 in April in any spending category, I’d earn the following:

  • February
    • 1,000 bonus miles from spending $500
    • 2,500 bonus miles from the 5x promo
  • March
    • 1,000 bonus miles from spending $500
    • 2,500 bonus miles from the 5x promo
  • April
    • 1,000 bonus miles from spending $500
    • 500 miles from base spend
  • Hitting 3 month spend requirements
    • 2,000 bonus miles
  • Total = 10,500 United MileagePlus miles

That works out to be a return of 7 miles per dollar which is a nice boost to my MileagePlus account with very little effort as I’d likely be spending $500+ on groceries in February and March anyway. Then in April I can just divert some “everywhere else” spend on to the card seeing as by that point my United Gateway card would’ve reverted back to earning 1x on most spend unless it gets targeted for some kind of additional spending offer in Q2 as well.

Be sure to check the terms of your spending offer(s) though if you were targeted because there are other versions out there such as this one posted about on Miles to Memories.

Is there a way to track our progress toward hitting the spending requirement on these offers?

Noah

Tried the website and didn’t get targeted, but then tried the app and did get to register! My offer is weak though (on gateway no annual fee card): spend $350 on travel for 300 mile bonus, $1000 on anything for 900 mile bonus, and start a My Chase Plan payment plan on any purchase of $100 or more for 250 mile bonus… not going to chase it but if I happen to do the spend then ok…

Checked the app after no offer from the link… got an offer for +1 extra point on dining for the month of Feb. No thanks.

Yuri

I’ve got Chase Q1 offer for spending $1k in 3 months to get 5x.
I also got 250 each month Jan-Mar and additional 250 if I do it in all 3, total 1000.
I will do the 5x and 250 of course. So total will be 5500, and they also give 1 additional point if you spend at gas stations.

I just signed up and it says Jan, Feb, and March for me…so I already missed Jan and the all-three-months kicker.

DP: the link that was posted here said I wasn’t eligible, but I have a similar offer in my united app…. and that link worked for me.

I I got excited when I first saw this offer with the stack option, but after doing the numbers I think I’m going to pass. I have the United Gateway and targeted for $2K/mo = 4K bonus points/mo and if I cover the $2K/mo for all Feb, Mar, Apr = 8K extra bonus. I’m also targeted for Q1 5x at grocery/gas/restaurants up to $1K. Supposing I covered all bonuses – I’d be looking at 30K points (incl base) for 6K spend, so 5x points/$ if I do it perfectly. If I didn’t have SUBs underway and planned, I would consider it. Interestingly, the lower dollar offer is a much better deal, at 7x seems like a small dunk.
