Earlier, we reported about how Gift of College cards are available in some Barnes & Noble stores, but lamented the fact that they are only be available in $200 denominations. Toys R Us used to be the popular outlet to buy these cards as they carried the $500 increments and didn’t appear to have any cap as to how many you could buy. It was reported in the news today that Toys R Us might not be dead after all. Short summary: investors think they can make more by reopening stores than by selling off whatever assets are left.
Here’s hoping some of those assets collecting dust in a warehouse somewhere are Gift of College gift cards. Since Toys R Us pulled gift cards when the final closing was announced, maybe it’s not so far-fetched that they at least have a pile sitting somewhere . . .
Hopefully, we’ll be able to update the Best Options for Buying Gift of College Gift Cards with good news sooner rather than later . . .
God that would be wonderful…. I guess I’ll just keep deferring mine until we find out. LOL
I have been following GoC’s twitter feed and see that they are saying that a retailer might start carrying the $500 cards at some point. The upcoming changes to the AMEX Gold Card that will earn 4X at supermarkets would be a boon to those that can get the $500 cards at HEB in Texas…
