Now that I finally have access to Citi Merchant Offers, I’ve been checking out if there are any decent offers available on my cards.

Last night I noticed an offer on one of my cards that can save you up to 10% on paid Virgin Atlantic flights or possibly for taxes and fees on award flights.

Virgin Atlantic Citi Merchant Offer Spend $500 Get $50

Quick Thoughts

If you’ll be booking paid flights with Virgin Atlantic, this is a great way to save some money if your flights cost $500 or more. This offer might also work when paying for taxes and fees on award flights provided those fees meet the $500 threshold.

What I’m not sure about is whether this type of Citi Merchant Offer works on cumulative spend across two or more transactions. For example, let’s say you’re looking to book two round-trip tickets to London and find Virgin Atlantic flights costing $475 per person. The total would be $950, but Virgin Atlantic would presumably take two payments of $475. I’m therefore not sure if you’d get the $50 statement credit as that would depend on whether or not the $500 spend requirement has to be met in one transaction.

If you do take advantage of this offer, be sure to click through to Virgin Atlantic from a shopping portal. There are only a handful of portals offering cashback for Virgin Atlantic and the highest rate is only 1%, but you might as well earn extra cashback on top of the statement credit from this Citi Merchant Offer. You can find the current portal rates here and here.

Any idea if CITI charges foreign transaction fee on Virgin Atlantic tickets?

This VIRGIN ATLANTIC offer even appears on AMERICAN AIRLINES credit cards.

That’s worth a laugh.

that offer has been showing up on my double cash card for a few months now. Would be a good offer on a card that has trip protection
