10% off Best Buy birthday coupon [YMMV, but register]

4

This week I stumbled on a feature of the My Best Buy program that I hadn’t previously seen: since I had previously registered my birthday with Best Buy (I don’t remember doing this), I found that I have a coupon in my account good for 10% off one item. The language indicates that the item can’t be used on sale items, so it may not be very stackable. However, if you’re a Best Buy shopper, it’s worth registering anyway in case you receive something similar when your birthday rolls around.

To register for your own Birthday coupon, go to the My Best Buy benefits page here. Find the place boxed below to enter your birthday:

According to the My Best Buy Birthday Coupon FAQ page, not everyone who registers will receive a coupon.

Q:  Will all members with a birthday attached to their rewards account receive a birthday coupon?

A:  No.  The birthday coupon is sent to a random selection of members each month.  There is no guarantee that an eligible member will recieve [sic] one during any given year.

The terms of the coupon indicate that the discount comes off of regular price and there is a long list of exclusions.

However, the reason I stumbled on this is because I was looking at laptops and saw this in the search results:

On a qualifying item page, there is a check box to apply your birthday coupon:

Once you check the box on one item, you won’t see the discount available in search results until you un-check that box (so if you continue shopping, you won’t immediately know which items qualify).

Again, the terms make it clear that a random selection of customers receive the coupon each month and 10% may not be huge on a non-sale item, but on the other hand it doesn’t hurt to give this one a shot. Those who have the Amex Offers good for a total of $100 back at Best Buy could stack with a birthday coupon to save a bit more. It wouldn’t hurt to register just in case the stars align like that for you in the future.

Happy birthday!
Hilarious that they won’t give you $3 off of a Chromecast. Surface laptop or tablet might be a good use.

Interesting, I thought I was fully registered for BB perks, but this was a new one for me. Upon registering, I received the notice: “ If your birthday is between today and the end of the following month, your birthday gift might be delayed.“. My b-day happens to be today, so I guess I registered in the “Nick” of time. Thanks, Nick!
