Rakuten is offering 10% cash back or 10x Membership Rewards points at a number of stores today, including Staples. That’s a terrific return that would stack with the new Amex Offer we reported earlier that’s good for 10% back. Note that you will not likely receive a portal payout on gift card purchases.

Key Terms

Quick Thoughts
Keep in mind that you probably won’t get any rewards for a gift card purchase. Still, if you need to buy something else that Staples sells, it would be great to stack 10x Membership Rewards points (if you choose to earn points through Rakuten) with 10% back via the new Amex Offer. Getting both $40 and 4,000 Membership Rewards points back on a single purchase could be a great deal if Staples sells something you want or need.

Staples usually excludes many items like printers and scanners and other “technology” items from cashback portals. Rakuten is not showing this restriction with this promo which is great!
