Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is happening now! Follow us as Greg, Nick, and Stephen compete to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines before November 23rd. Who will complete the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?
Chase currently has fantastic offers for their three Ink Business cards. The offers add up to 180,000 points. Even though the two fee-free cards are advertised as cash back cards, they actually earn Ultimate Rewards points. And, Ultimate Rewards is my favorite transferable points currency.
Over the weekend, I created a new resource page: How to sign up for Chase Ink cards. This page answers the following questions:
- Do I really need a business to apply? [Quick answer: Yes, but you might have a business without realizing it]
- Can I qualify for the signup bonus if I currently have an Ink card, or have had one in the past?
- What specifically should I put in the business card application?
- I’m over 5/24. Is there any hope? [Chase usually won’t approve you for new cards if you’ve signed up for 5 or more cards with any bank in the past 24 months, but there are a couple of things you can try even if you are over 5/24]
- What can I do to increase my chances of approval?
Please check out the new page and refer to it before applying for Ink Business cards (or for any other Chase business cards):

Hi Greg,
Somewhere I read that UR from other cards can be transferred to Southwest Airlines, but when I attempted to do that from a Chase Ink Business, it wouldn’t allow it online. I called Chase (twice actually) and was told you can’t transfer between the two because airline miles are different that UR point. How did you manage to do it?
Which Chase Ink Business card do you have? It sounds like maybe you have the Chase Ink Cash card.
You need to have a premium Chase card to transfer to partners (Chase Ink Business Preferred, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve….or if you still have an older Ink Plus, that would work as well). If you have one of those cards, first move your Ultimate Rewards from your Ink Cash to the premium card (click “combine points” in the Ultimate Rewards portal). Then you can transfer to travel partners (airlines and hotels).
So, if a person was sitting at 4/24 and they were interested in both one of these Ink cards and the Sapphire Preferred – the best strategy would be the Ink card first since you need to be under 5/24 BUT it won’t kill your chances for the CSP because it does not impact your 5/24 count. Apparently, this order of application will work, whereas going for the CSP first will knock you out of contention for the Ink card….got it – this way we can get two cards and not just one before bumping ourselves back up to 5/24, right?
Well, I hope I didn’t mess up my chances. Last month I downgraded from Chase preferred to unlimited. Then Friday, when I was finally 4/24 I applied for Chase Ink Preferred. Was given the 30 day. Called and spoke to a rep and told them I would be happy to move around my credit-he asked me a lot of questions about my business, income, how I plan to use the card. Never happened before. Told me they would decide in the next 24-48 hours–would get a letter, or I could call back Monday. I thought this sounded promising, so I then applied to for the Chase reserve. Almost the exact same thing, a whole slew of questions. Crossing my fingers that tomorrow is good, and that I did not blow it by not waiting until I heard about chase ink before applying for reserve.
My guess is that you’ll be fine. Good luck!
Well, I was approved eventually for the Chase Ink preferred but denied for “too many applications” for the reserve. I think I should have waited until all was free and clear with the business card and not applied for the reserve while it was pending. I lose another card this month so I will reapply for the reserve again next month
That’s right with respect to 5/24. Keep in mind though that there are other things besides 5/24 that can cause Chase to issue a denial.
[…] How to get approved for up to 180K Ultimate Rewards points via Ink Business cards […]
Wish I could get this one. I racked up 320,000 UR points in 8 months. I’m starting to get turned down now for cards. I applied for this one but got this for an answer, we’ll let you know in 30 days by mail.
Report back if you end up getting shutdown by chase please.

Thanks for the great resource & reminders. Related query, I’d like to learn how to get “targeted” for the current (as of early May, afaik) 120,000 UR points promo for the Chase Ink Preferred card…. Any experience or data points out there on how to get targeted for such promos? Call in working? To those who got it, was it by snail mail or by email? (and if the latter, what was the subject line?) I’m inclined to hold out and wait for them to come to me….. 50% more than the current general 80K offer is…. well, it’s 50% more. (esp. if I’m to pay an annual fee for the card)
I don’t know any way to get targeted for better Chase offers unfortunately. The 180K is from the Ink Business Preferred standard 80K offer + 50K for Ink Cash + 50K Ink Unlimited
What about the increase in recent chase shutdowns?
Yep, that’s a general issue you need to be aware of when signing up for any Chase cards, not just Ink cards. I’ll add a caution to the guide.
