We recently shared the news that GiftCards.com will no longer pay cashback on Visa gift card purchases through cashback portals. There might still be a way to earn cashback on those purchases through a non-standard portal.
We’ve written before about some of the benefits of Acorns Found Money. See: Get free money from Acorns Found Money & boost your savings as well as 60+ retailers where Acorns Found Money offers the highest cashback.
One of the Found Money partners is GiftCards.com. While traditional cashback portals now have wording stating that Visa gift card purchases are excluded (the below image is from TopCashback)…
…there’s no such wording for GiftCards.com on Acorns:
Now, there’s no guarantee that buying Visa gift cards from GiftCards.com via Acorns Found Money will track. Acorns might simply be slow in updating the terms, so even though Visa gift cards aren’t specified as being excluded, in reality they might be.
There’s a chance though that because earnings through Found Money are invested rather than awarded as cashback, their affiliate relationship with GiftCards.com might be different to the terms offered to standard cashback portals.
If so, this is a good way to continue mitigating activation fees when purchasing Visa gift cards. If you’ll be purchasing these cards anyway, it’d be worth giving the Acorns Found Money partnership a try seeing as you wouldn’t be forgoing cashback from elsewhere.
This is a tad bit late, but I have been using giftcardmall.com for all my MSing and it has always gone so well. The cards arrive fairly quickly and I have no problems with them (up to this date). I have been using Befrugal.com as my cash-back portal for the longest time and they still have 1% back on all visas. It is only recently that they actually added the monthly spend cap of $30,000, beyond which you will not be reimbursed. However, like always, I just created multiple accounts, linked to my multiple checking accounts. Still working steady for me, and making mad returns with the cards I spend on.
The only portal I’m confident that I’ll get paid for purchases before 4/30 is Yazing since Adam sent out emails that he has negotiated with GCM and GCcom about pending changes to cashback on Visa and Mastercards AFTER Apr 30. I remember when Amex quit paying on AGCs, even if some portals still showed CB, Amex didn’t pay months later after it was announced in other portals that Amex quit paying CB for AGCs bought online; with Yazing’s assurance of the CBs bought on or before Apr 30, I can wait a month or two and if I don’t get my CB which I also did a screenshot at the time of purchase, I will send support ticket to Adam.
I received email off assurance from Adam regarding my purchases in April. I have not ordered from GCM nor GCC in May. I ordered from Simon online when they had fee free days the last weekend of April until early morning of May 1. I already received two orders from them, no fees on those days made up for lost CBs from portals.
why dont you guys try it out and then post about it ?
I’m traveling full time and so don’t have a home address to send VGCs to. I use a mail forwarder, but I’m wary of relying on that for VGCs in case they went missing somewhere along the way.
There are other portals like swagbucks and other apps still showing giftcards.com at 1.25 % . Whereas the terms and condition do not mention about excluding Visa specifically . We never know until we try , initially it may even show as tracked with the 1.25% amount , but at the end if gc.com doesnt pay then you wont get paid.
I suspect gc.com will be partial in paying some lesser know portals/apps and explicitly excluding some biggies like befrugal and TCB.
Big MSers might try other portals and even might be successful ( we know u r successful only after a month or 2 ) , but at the same time they will be Ok if they get Hit. Bcoz they have made a huge profit. If it is successful , it will only be shared with close group and it might last little bit longer.
But small timers , might just be Sol if it is a failure
Dont see any restriction at mrrebates.
