Turkish Miles & Smiles is offering increased miles via hotel booking site Rocketmiles including 5,000 miles on your first booking if you are new to Rocketmiles. Since Turkish miles can theoretically be used to book a one-way economy class redemption on United anywhere in the US (including Alaska and Hawaii), that’s like earning 2/3 of a one-way economy class ticket with a single booking. If you’re booking a paid stay where loyalty credit doesn’t matter, this is worth a look.

Quick Thoughts

Booking site Rocketmiles works like most online travel agencies in that I wouldn’t expect to earn elite nights or hotel loyalty points for a booking. However, the bonus here could certainly mitigate it.

I just searched a handful of markets and in most cases the mileage bonuses aren’t amazing, but there are often some hidden gems. For instance, I looked up a night in Albuquerque this weekend and I see that a $123 stay at the Residence Inn (plus tax no doubt) would earn 8,000 miles before the new member bonus.

a screenshot of a websiteIf this were your first booking with Rocketmiles, you would earn an additional 5,000 miles on top for a total of 13,000 miles — nearly enough for a domestic economy class round trip on United — for that $123 booking. Of course note that bookings via Turkish for United flights are difficult to accomplish these days since there is no checkout button on the website and phone agents often have difficulty.

Note that while the email from Turkish said you could earn up to 10,000 miles per night, I searched a one night stay and saw some options awarding as much as 15,000 miles (before the new member bonus) on a single night (generally on expensive rates).

If I weren’t so overloaded with free night certificates and miles at the moment, I would probably have my wife do this as she’s never made a Rocketmiles booking, but at the moment I have no need for a hotel in the near future. While the terms indicate that you must book by 12/31, I don’t know how far out the stay can take place.

No properties in my market list the 5,000 bonus, although the promo was at the header of the page. I didn’t realize this until after I made a booking, assuming that the 5k would be added on top of the 500 miles advertised when I booked :/ It’s definitely a deceptive offer.

I think there might be an error in the article. The 8k for the Residence in the example includes the 5,000 mile bonus. I searched in my market and only certain properties include the “5,000 bonus applied” message”
