The Point Debit Card is out with some increased payouts today, including 5x points (equivalent to 5% back) at Amazon, Costco, Trader Joe’s, Coffee Shops, and more. I also saw 10x on Revel Mopeds, though a debit card likely isn’t your best choice for a rental.
The Deal
- The Point Debit Card is offering some nice increased payouts, including:
- 5x Amazon through 11:59pm PDT August 8, 2021 (max of 5K points)
- 5X Best Buy through 11:59pm PDT August 8, 2021. Valid in-store and online. Excludes physical and electronic gift cards. (Max of 5,000 points)
- 5x Coffee Shops including Starbucks, Peet’s, Dunkin’, La Colombe, etc through August 8, 2021. Not valid through third-party retailers, websites, or mobile applications. (max of 2.5K points)
- 5X Costco through 11:59pm PDT August 8, 2021. Valid in-store and online. Excludes physical and electronic gift cards. (Max of 2,500 points)
- 5X Etsy through 11:59pm PDT August 8, 2021. Excludes physical and electronic gift cards. (Max of 5,000 points)
- 10x Revel Mopeds via the Rebel Mopeds app through 11:59pm PDT October 1, 2021
- 5X Trader Joe’s through 11:59pm PDT August 8, 2021. Valid in-store. Excludes physical and electronic gift cards. (Max of 2,500 points)
- 5x Whole Foods through 11:59pm PDT August 8, 2021 (max of 5K points)
- Note that points are worth $0.01 each, so these returns are like 5%-10% back.

Quick Thoughts
These are nice increased rates, but note the caps and terms for individual retailers. In most cases, you can earn 5% back up on up $500 or $1,000 in purchases, so that’s a great return for most uses. Few credit cards can beat that return at places like Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, and Etsy.
I can’t imagine that Point can continue to run offers like these forever, so take advantage while you have the opportunity.
In practice do Amazon reloads earn 5x?
They had for me in the past, but I think there might have been reports recently that reloads weren’t earning 5x. Buying Amazon gift cards has still been working though which achieves pretty much the same thing.
You mean buying physical Amazon gift cards direct from Amazon?
That would work, but I order Amazon eGift cards and that’s always worked.
The Point debit card does offer rental car coverage…not sure if that includes Mopeds
Amex has a targeted promo for 5x at Amazon up to $1500 right now.
Is there a hard credit pull if you get this card?
No.

They didn’t put a lot of thought in to this promotion. Costco only takes Visa as a credit card. If you pay as debit their swipe fees are virtually nothing.
You can pay with other cards besides Visa when you purchase via Costco.com
You also can buy a Costco GC from costco.com using any card.
Not true. You cannot use Amex.
