Update 1/6/25: On December 20th, we pointed out messaging from BuyHiltonGiftCards.com indicating an inventory shortage (that full post is below). As has been pointed out in the comments, the BuyHiltonGiftCards site has now suspended the sale of gift cards. The messaging indicates that inventory will be “replenished” within the next eight weeks, but we don’t yet know exactly when they’ll be replenished — or whether the replenishment will also affect the processing of purchases. For the time being, you can not order Hilton Gift Cards.
The original post follows below.
Those procrastinators who have credit cards that offer credits at Hilton properties might be in for disappointment this holiday season. Apparently, the Grinch has gotten into the supply of Hilton gift cards and BuyHiltonGiftCards.com is “experiencing an inventory shortage”. It doesn’t sound like that shortage is going to be cleared up before the end of the year.
Despite the messaging at the top of the page, it is still possible to place an order. And at least one person I know has placed an order since the messaging went up and he was immediately charged for the gift card. Of course, it’s early to know whether that charge will finalize immediately or whether BuyHiltonGiftCards.com will wait to finalize until they ship, which is fairly common practice among many retailers. That said, perhaps it is less common on gift card sales since they presumably want to know that the charge will finalize before loading/shipping the gift cards.
Since they are only “hoping” to have inventory “in the coming weeks”, I think there’s a good chance that gift cards won’t ship out until sometime into the new year. Obviously that’s a bummer if you need a gift card now, but it’s potentially a bigger bummer if they only run an authorization now and finalize the charge later.
I imagine we’ll know if charges post to statements in the next few days, so you may just want to keep an eye on data points to see. On the other hand, it might be worth getting an order in sooner rather than later in case they stop taking orders at some point. You could always look for an opportunity to use the credit in person sometime in the next 11 days if the charge falls off your statement (assuming you’re using a card that may reimburse the charge, I guess in the worst case you’ll know that you probably won’t have to worry about procrastinating on 2025 Q1’s credit).
Website now says sales have been temporarily suspended:
“Dear Hilton Gift Card Purchasing Consumer – due to an unforeseen inventory shortage of Hilton Gift Cards, RPG has been instructed to temporarily suspend the sales of Hilton gift cards until card inventory is replenished, by the Hilton Program Management Team. We are expecting replenished inventory to be available within the next eight weeks. RPG, along with the Hilton Gift Card Management Team, apologizes for this unexpected delay, and appreciates your understanding as we work closely with all relevant parties to resolve this shortage as expediently as possible.”
Hi Nick, I just received the $50 Hilton GC in the mail today from RPG Customer Relations in Lisle, IL 60532. Here are my data points:
I had trouble using the last Hilton GC I purchased 6+ months ago, so hoping the next time I try to use these GCs I don’t run into any issues. Happy New Year!
[…] And of course this was bound to happen too…as I await one more Hilton gift card to arrive in my mailbox to add to the growing pile: Uh-oh: Hilton gift card inventory shortage (not expected to ship for “weeks”). […]
Question:
Can I select either “Gift Card for Consumer” or “Gift Card for Business”? Or must it be “For Business” to get the Amex Credit?
Thanks
Any update to this?
I ended up selecting “for business”. Both the gift card and the Amex credit posted as hoped.
Data point: I tried purchasing today and it didn’t go through. Contacted Amex as I thought it might have been flagged as fraudulent. Wasn’t from Amex’s side, was from the website.
However, I am in South America and trying to purchase via a VPN, so that may have tripped a wire for the site.
Edit: I tried my two other Business Platinum cards and they worked fine. Tried the original one after that and it still doesn’t work.
It does show as attempted in my Amex account (pending $51.95 charge then pending $51.95 credit) so can confirm the card info is correct. Just doesn’t want to work on that card. Also confirmed with Amex chat rep that they didn’t decline it. Very odd.
Not going to try it again on that card, have tried 3 times, with different VPN locations, and no dice. Don’t want to keep trying and get a fraud call (I already might…)
Message from website: “WE ARE SORRY
We apologize but we are unable to process your transaction. Please review your billing and payment information for accuracy, and resubmit your order.”
Purchased on 12/22, with the “not in stock” banner still displayed.
Received a message on 12/23 that the card had shipped.
Do any Hilton hotels actually stock and sell GCs (like several Marriotts do?)
Would this work with Hilton Aspire card? I haven’t used my $200 credit this half of the year yet.
No. Whereas the Surpass and Business Platinum seem to just need a generic Hilton charge (which these gift card purchases satisfy), the Aspire needs to be charged by a specific hotel on the Hilton resort list. The Aspire credit can be a real pain to use.
The ELEPHANT in the room?………………………..they do not work at most Hilton Properties.
I am at 1 out of 9 GC tries, with success only at the Arizona Biltmore, other properties, no soup.
All of mine from Surpass and Amex Hilton Business for P1 and P2 got reimbursed.
No cards have arrived yet though. Purchased them two weeks ago.
I purchased a $50 gift card tonight. Received an email immediately confirming the purchase. Charge of $51.95 shows in my Amex act as pending. Will see if it posts tomorrow and report back
Followip: pending Hilton GC purchase has now posted. Significance: indicates charge posts prior to shipment so credits will originate from this year’s allotment in spite of Hilton GC being out of stock.
Just tried purchasing the GC online, but got error message after submitting the request (twice). Hoping its just a temp website glitch. Any other DPs as of 12/21 or later?
I was recently approved for an American Express platinum business card. I have not received the credit card yet so I cannot get into the app or on website and enroll for Dell or Airline credits.
For Hilton gift card, do I have to enroll on app before making purchase?
Yes
Hawaii is not a state available to ship to. Does not make a lot of sense as they use USPS.
Those little trucks just can’t make it halfway across the Pacific.
I didn’t explain my previous question very well. I am just looking to maximize the latest amex plat b-card to the Hilton b-account. Has anybody had success in trying to link more than one amex plat b-card to the hilton business account to get more than one gift card out of this offer. I have two and I’m looking to see if anyone has an idea…
It’s based on the credit card, and the charges landing per credit card. So as long as you use one amex plat cards for one gift card, and then repeat the process, you should receive the credit back per gift card.
