If you are getting status by holding Delta credit cards then you already get free checked bags just for holding the cards, and you can get that benefit cheaper by getting the Delta gold card. The biggest advantage of getting Silver Medallion is probably being able to select exit row seats. However, the nice thing about the Delta platinum cards is that they have enough other benefits to be worth it anyway, and you can get Silver Medallion for free. For example, with the personal and business Delta platinum cards you get two round trip companion certificates, a $150 Delta Stays credit, a $200 Delta Stays credit, and Silver Medallion status (and some other random ride share and Resy credits) for a total of $700 annual fees. That’s a crazy good deal if you fly Delta enough to use the companion certificates.
What does tier status with Delta even mean? (Humor intended.)
