Citi Application Rules

  • 48 Month Rule: With most Citi cards, you can only receive a welcome offer every 48 months. This applies to the same exact card, not families of cards and is counted from the date that you receive the welcome offer, not from when you're approved.
  • Velocity Limits: Citi allows a maximum of one personal card per 8 days and a maximum of two personal cards per 65 days. Business cards are limited to one per 90 days.
  • Card Limits: Citi doesn't have a strict limit on the amount of cards that you can have, but it does place limits on the total amount of credit that they will issue you across all cards. Unfortunately, unlike most banks, Citi does not allow you to move credit from one existing card to the another card.
  • Application Status: Call (866) 606-2787 or go here to check your application status. For Costco cards, call (877) 343-4118.
  • Reconsideration: If denied, call (800) 695-5171 for personal cards or (866) 541-7657 for business cards.

For the CitiBusiness AA card, are there an no-fee cards that can be downgraded to? And more broadly, are there any downgrade options at all? Thanks.

Cha

I have the same question!

Frank

Link is not working

Troy

@greg this spend is within 4 months not 6, may want to update that

Greg The Frequent Miler

Thanks! Fixed

75k offer is dead. For some reason I thought it had a later end date.

joe

Did anyone earn the bonus in the statement but the miles not posting to AA account? My statement closed two weeks ago but i still dont see the miles as of today, only the loyalty points have posted

Is it the citi business card? I don’t have the business account, but do you think the bonus is on the AAdvantage business account?
On the T&C:
Primary cardmember
The primary cardmember must have or open an AAdvantage® account in their own name. Miles earned on the primary cardmember’s credit card will be allocated to the AAdvantage Business™ account. Loyalty Points earned by the primary cardmember will be posted to the AAdvantage® account of the primary cardmember. Loyalty Points and miles earned by primary cardmember on any other Citi® / AAdvantage® credit cards where they are the primary cardmember will post to their individual AAdvantage® account.

I was trying to apply for this card but the application says that the business name and my name can’t be the same? I’ve been using my name as the business name for all my other business cards. Is there a way around this?

Avi Kerendian

Following as well. Any updates? – Avi Kerendian

xsteverinox

Hi Avi
I added my middle initial in the business name and left it off my name to match my AA account. It worked like that.

25% off inflight purchases may only be for in-flight Wifi.

According to some other sources (FT eg) Citi AA cards now deny sign up bonus for 48 months from previous bonus. I do see that in application terms, is that the current situation? thanks

Webazoid

Can you apply both personal and business aa and get miles?

Nick Reyes

Yes, absolutely.

Webazoid

Thx. What if you had these cards before? How long between when u had and closed to get miles? I

Applied for personal and biz on Saturday. Approved for personal on Sunday after calling reconsideration line. Approved biz Monday after calling reconsideration line. Last time I had been approved for citi aa personal select card 1/2013 and biz 1/2015. Both cards cancelled over 24 months ago.

Nick Reyes

Good to hear. Congrats.

DW got a Citi Business AAdvantage card and now it is showing on her Equifax report on CreditKarma (but not on Transunion).

Why? I thought maybe it would go away but it is still there 2 months later.

She will be under 5/24 otherwise, so what will happen? Any Ideas?

Greg The Frequent Miler

Just to be sure: you mean that it shows as a new account not as an inquiry, right?
Assuming that’s so, I don’t know! Maybe CitiBusiness reports to Equifax but not to the other bureaus. If that’s true, then your 5/24 count may be dependent upon which bureaus Chase pulls for your applications. Have you tracked that?

Frank

Not sure what you mean by track it. But it still shows up on CreditKarma as an open account now on the Equifax side, which is where all the Chase cards show. .

How do I “track” it?

Greg The Frequent Miler

I meant: have you watched to see which bureaus Chase issues hard inquires to when you apply for a Chase card?

Frank

No.

Frank

Is there a way to get this removed from the personal account?

Greg The Frequent Miler

I doubt it, but I don’t know for sure

Frank

Thanks.

Small adjustment: looks like the annual fee on this has gone up from $95 to $99.
