Alaska Airlines has launched a new opportunity to earn MVP status for 2023, but there’s a catch – it’s only available for those who currently hold MVP status and are about to have it expire.

Alaska Airlines Elite Status Fast Track

  • Direct link to offer.

  • Members who were participating in a status match challenge on January 1, 2022 and did not retain the status are not eligible.
  • Status earned through this fast track is valid through December 31, 2023.
  • This offer may not be used to achieve a higher status than the one held on January 1, 2022.
  • In order to earn back MVP status, you must earn 5,000 base miles; in order to earn back MVP Gold status, you must earn 10,000 base miles; and in order to earn back MVP Gold 75K status, you must earn 20,000 base miles.
  • All eligible travel must take place between January 13 to April 13, 2023.
  • A minimum of 2 segments must be flown on Alaska marketed and operated flights.
  • Award travel and bonus miles are not eligible base flight miles.
  • Miles eligible for this offer include base miles earned on Alaska marketed and operated flights, and base miles earned on eligible partner flights.
  • Gold Guest Upgrades, Lounge Day Passes, and MVP Gold 75K MVP nominations will be available after the member has met the requirement for the respective elite status.
  • Members who receive MVP Gold 75K status as part of this offer are not eligible for the 50,000 bonus miles or American Airlines System-Wide Upgrades associated with qualifying for MVP Gold 75K status.

Quick Thoughts

This is a great second chance for those who have enjoyed the benefits of MVP status this past year but didn’t fly enough in order to retain status through 2023.

As noted in the terms above, if you’re eligible for this elite status fast track you’d need to earn the following number of miles within the 3 month period from January 13-April 13 in order to regain MVP status:

  • MVP – 5,000 miles
  • MVP Gold – 10,000 miles
  • MVP Gold 75k – 20,000 miles

For comparison, here are the normal year-long status requirements for those elite levels:

  • MVP – 20,000 miles
  • MVP Gold – 40,000 miles
  • MVP Gold 75k – 75,000 miles

As you can see, you get a quarter of the year to earn a quarter of the number of miles normally required to earn status, other than with MVP Gold 75k which requires 26.67%. The difference with normal elite status earning is that this fast track will only earn you status through December 31, 2023 rather than December 31, 2024. That means that if you want to continue with MVP status through 2024 you’ll need to continue earning throughout 2023 rather than only from January 13-April 13.

Also note that you have to fly at least two segments marketed and operated by Alaska Airlines, so only crediting flights flown on another airline’s metal won’t be sufficient for the earning requirements.

I’m in the right category to take advantage of this. Currently MVPG and only qualified for MVP in 2023 but I don’t think I’m going to attempt it. I likely won’t fly Alaska as much in 2023 so even being MVPG again won’t amount to much.
