Over the past 24 hours, Amex has been sending out emails notifying cardholders of “appreciation credits” on many credit cards with renewal. I’d recommend keeping your eye out for any emails from American Express to double check the details. Note that this is different from retention offers in that Amex is reaching out with these offers proactively.
Doctor of Credit has reported that these emails are going out to cardholders with renewal dates between May 1 – December 31, 2020. Members of our Frequent Miler Insiders have reported receiving offers on many cards. Email subject lines vary but could be “A token of our appreciation for <first name>” or “Your additional Card value for 2020”.
Here are some of the offers we’ve seen so far:
- Amex Platinum card (personal / consumer): Members who renew between 4/1/20 and 12/31/20 are eligible to receive a $200 travel statement credit for eligible purchases through Amex Travel made between August 2020 through December 31, 2021.
- Delta Reserve (personal/consumer): $100 statement credit after renewal
- Business Platinum: $200 statement credit with renewal
- Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business: $125 statement credit with renewal
- Delta Platinum SkyMiles Business: $75 statement credit with renewal
- Marriott Bonvoy Business: $50 statement credit with renewal
- Hilton Business: $50 statement credit with renewal
We will continue to update this post as further data points come in. If you have received a renewal offer on any other Amex cards, let us know in the comments.
Biz Plat. Nope. No love.
The card featured in your photo is the gold card. No appreciation for those who have that card that I’ve heard of. You mighty want to use a photo of one of the cards that this post actually applies to, no?
Bonvoy Biz annual fee posted on 4/26. No email or banner offer for me. I chatted with Amex to see if the offer would apply to my account and the rep said they had no idea what I was talking about. I’ll try calling directly, but if it doesn’t apply in my case, the card will be cancelled. $75 for a 35k cert is a pretty good deal. $125 is not given the current environment.
I would be with you, but with the extra 15 elite night credits, getting to platinum is a breeze for me now, so I am afraid I am stuck on their hamster wheel for awhile longer
I just chatted with an Amex rep, and I was told that even though my annual fee for the Bonvoy Business card posted April 24, I still qualify for the $50 credit, and it would post in 8-12 weeks. So hopefully they are being a little more generous with this than they said…
Mine posted on Apr 17 and was told no dice. I canceled it. Have a bunch of free night certificates already. Maybe when I use those I’ll sign up for the card again.
4 cards including AMEX Gold and nothing
Five cards, including two super premium and…… nada!!!!
Delta Platinum Skymiles Personal $50
Nothing on my Bonvoy Business card. Just recently paid renewal. If it weren’t for the fact I get all the incredible Amex offers on this card (which I rarely use) I’d cancel it.
Me too. I oddly seem to get all my best AMEX offers on this card specifically and am keeping it largely for that reason.

Delta Platinum SkyMiles Personal: $50 statement credit with renewal
Same.
Same. Cancelled the card, no retention offers available.
Same here. I got the $75 offer on my Delta Plat Biz card. That’s the one I was planning to cancel. Those nice big fat offers for the Amex Biz Platinums?… I downgraded to gold a couple of months ago when there was no offer for retention. Also, I don’t have cable or whatever kind of phone it is that you can get $x a month off on, and I don’t need anything from Dell. I’m sure all these additional generous deals are helpful to some people, at least I think I’m sure of that… but they are really worthless to me.
