Amex Business Platinum 120K Upgrade Offer (targeted)

9

There is a (highly?) targeted upgrade offer for the Amex Business Platinum that started appearing on some cardholders’ accounts over the last few weeks. It seems to be targeted at both Business Gold cardholders and Business Green cardholders and it offers 120,000 points after $10K spend within the first three months.

Complete Guide to the American Express Business Platinum card

The Deal

  • There is a targeted upgrade offer for American Express Business Gold and Business Green Cardholders: Upgrade to a Business Platinum and earn 120,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $10,000 in first three months of card membership.
  • Expires 8/31/24

Quick Thoughts

This is an upgrade offer, as opposed to a welcome offer on a new card. It’s been fairly common over the years for Business Gold cardholders to get targeted for an upgrade right before or after their first cardholder anniversary. We’ve even seen folks targeted for upgrades as soon as 2-3 months after completing the minimum spend on the Business Gold welcome offer.

This upgrade offer should only be considered if you’ve already had, or currently have, the Business Platinum card. Otherwise, upgrading will cause you to become ineligible for new enrollment welcome offers on the card for at least the next 4-5 years.

However, if you’ve already had the Business Platinum (or have one now), this could be a great deal. There is no hard-pull on the upgrade and neither your card numbers nor your card anniversary will change. You will be charged a prorated annual fee for the new card based on the time remaining until your next account anniversary. It effectively allows you to get a new cardholder welcome offer without actually opening up a new card.

I was targeted for this when the article came out. I waited a couple of days for a Staples order to get refunded from the biz gold $20 a month credit, and now I’m not targeted. Lesson learned, strike while the iron is hot.

Same! both my biz gold were targeted when the article first came out but this morning it says not targeted.

[…] The generic American Express Business Platinum upgrade link has a targeted increased bonus of 120,000 Membership Rewards after $10,000 spend in three months. If you’re really quick, you can still get the first half of 2024 $200 Dell credit or at least a Dell cancelation email before the credit evaporates. (Thanks to FM) […]

I currently have the +10x on dining from a referral bonus attached to a business gold card with this upgrade offer. Any idea if this will transfer over if I upgrade?

It would be awesome to earn the new SuB while also getting +10x on dining. I’m considering the upgrade because I’ve already had the business platinum, and would’ve canceled the business gold in a few months anyway when the new annual fee hits. I was surprised to see such a decent upgrade offer in a card I haven’t even had a full year yet b

This is not a very good offer. It could potentially be useful if you need to get a card ASAP and you’ve already maxed out the new number of cards in 90 days. Or if you’ve had the card already and cannot find a targeted NLL offer for a new card. Otherwise, a new card is the way to go. There’s virtually no harm done by getting a new plat business card, as there’s no inquiry on your credit report, and it doesn’t get reported to the credit report. And the offer is usually much better than 120k. Plus, I think if you upgrade, Amex will expect you to keep the plat card for the remainder of the gold card term, and one additional year.

120k offer is trash. There’s both 150k and 200k offers out there.

When I logged on to my AMEX account I got an offer for 200K with 15K spend. I haven’t jumped on it because I already have so many points and miles and am exhausted from all my overseas leisure trips (6X in the past 12 Months with more to come this year). I think I am burnt out and need a break from the game.
