Amex Business Platinum card now has $200 in annual Hilton credit

50

American Express has decided to spread some holiday cheer and make a good card even better.

I just noticed that Amex has added a new and seemingly unannounced benefit to the Business Platinum card: $200 in annual Hilton credit. This works just like the $200 credits that already exist on the Hilton Surpass card, where it’s metered out in $50/quarter increments that can’t be banked. The only difference is that enrolling in the benefit also signs you up for Hilton for Business (if you haven’t already).

The Deal

  • The American Express Business Platinum card now has a benefit for up to $200 in annual Hilton credit (up to $50 per quarter).
    • Enrollment required
    • You will be enrolled in Hilton for Business when you activate the benefit (there’s no need to sign up for it first).

  8. Statement credits are typically received within a few days but may take up to 8-12 weeks after a booking has been paid.

Quick Thoughts

Wow, this is unexpected. I’m not sure why Amex hasn’t trumpeted the addition of this new Hilton credit, but I’ll take it!

At first I thought that it was a mistake of some sort, but it’s on all of our household Business Platinum cards and the wording makes it clear that it’s in fact a new card benefit:

NEW! Get up to $200 in statement credits per calendar year (up to $50 per quarter) when you enroll in the $200 Hilton Statement Credit Benefit with your Business Platinum Card through American Express. Purchases must be made directly with a property in the Hilton portfolio on your Business Platinum Card.

While it’s irritating how Amex always breaks these things up, this is one that will undoubtedly be useful for many folks. It’s a welcome addition to the $200 airline incidental, $400 Dell and and $120 wireless credits that already exist on the card.

For much of 2024, there was a rumor that the Dell credit would be going away (until they were recently extended). However, instead of nerfing that, Amex added a brand new one, instead. Seeing this come right at the end of the year does make me wonder if we’ll see some further shuffling in 2025, with some other benefits reduced or altered in some way. For now, though, let’s not look a gift Hilton credit in the mouth.

Happy Holidays from American Express!

Terms sound like those of us with multiple business platinums will still be limited to a maximum of $200 credit per year across all cards? Having 3, this is a bit of a bummer to only get “up to” $200 in value, instead of up to $600 on all 3 cards.

Still an improvement for now, but if this is to partly replace the Dell credits going forward then that seems like a devaluation, to me, for those with multiple business platinums

“However, each Card Account is only eligible for up to $50 in statement credits per quarter for a total of up to $200 per calendar year across all Cards on the enrolled Card Account.”

Can we assume that these credits will trigger at SLH properties?

Not familiar with Hilton $50 GCs, where does one buy them? No Hilton plans before 12-31-24.

Thanks in advance.

Tara

Am I supposed to have the same HH number for my personal and Hilton for Business accounts? I enrolled via Amex, entered my personal HH number, and then received a “Welcome to Hilton for Business” email with a new and different account number

Jason

I have two Business Plat cards. It seems I can only enroll the Hilton credit for one card.

I signed up for three different cards

Traveling Rogers

Did you have different email accounts on file for Amex for each card? I have 3 that share the same email account and it enrolled one and then showed enrollment pending for the other two.

Christian

Two of my cards are under the same business with the same email and it wasn’t a problem

Jason

My p2 also has two Business Plat cards. She got same issue as me.

David

Same issue for me.

Geo@yqb

I enrolled all 4 of mine no problem.

David

Just called in. The rep added it to my other Bus. Plat Card.

Another benefit is you get 7500 HH points on your first business booking. Will report back if it combines with the additional 2500 HH points bonus offer.

Cheers,

[…] Nothing is being taken away, so I’d say that’s a pretty great thing (thanks to Frequent Miler for flagging […]

This seems like part of the replacement in the place of $400 Dell credits. Likely they’ll add something else too to make up for the other $200. And looking at this pattern where they introduce a new benefit half a year before they take the old one away, I’ll hope they add another new one worth $200 before the end of the year so there’s a chance to double dip.

On SUB for the card, is anyone able to see 300k SUB (targeted or via links?). The best I could see is 250k, and it’s not bad, but don’t wanna leave 50k on the table if it’s possible to get.

GemGal

Maybe this will be replacing the Dell credit after first half of 2025. This is a soft rollout to test it and then the announcement will come in 2025 along with the end of the Dell.

Jimmy

Are the new 2025 Dell credits usable immediately for Dell online purchases?

GemGal

They are usable starting Jan 1, 2025

On my last Hilton stay (Zemi Beach Anguilla) I tried 3 different gift cards and none worked, apparently its a widespread issue.

Even if these do work, its going to feel slimy going to settle a bill with $10 different 50 gift cards earned from multiple platinum accounts.

Mark P

The Hilton GCs work best for domestic properties. Used one at a Hampton Inn just this week.

Christian

Just bought a gift card on one of my business cards I’ll give a data point in a few days if it works to cover the purchase

Neo

I thought it’s too new a benefit to ask for a data point and here I see your post. Respect!

I hope this works similar to Hilton credits on their Hilton Biz card, but the enrollment on Hilton for Business part makes me wonder if they want to treat this differently. In any case, I don’t think I’d be able to plan a Hilton stay late in the month, so if this doesn’t work, I’m just adding another $60 GC to my collection paid for at face value.

Kirk

I worry the enrolling might take a day or two to kick in, so even if Christian doesn’t get the credit for buying a gift card, it might not be a complete data point.

Christian

I have received dozens of credits for purchases on the day of registration in the past. Also prepaying 2 $50 amounts from other cards for an upcoming trip to have both data points.

Chris

With all of the $50/$60 Hilton gift cards in circulation that seemingly are harder and harder to use its interesting that Amex wants to add more fuel to this fire.

Itsme

Just used two at two different hotels, at check out, and no issues at all.

Larry

Were you able to use the gift cards for the full amount? Did you notice any preauth issues like have been reported?

Itsme

I used it at checkout They have issues when u try to use them for pre authorization. For checkout I tell the front desk that I will be using a different card for my bill. I hand them the GC and tell them the amount. They swipe it and I give them a CC to pay balance. No issues at all. One of the hotels I actually used 2 $50.00 GCs and then one of my Hilton Amex to get this quarter credit

Pierre

same here – I just hand them a random card at check-in for pre authorization and then at check-out I explain I want to split up my final bill and give them all the gift cards/cards then. Haven’t had an issue so far this year.

Lee

Don’t be surprised if other benefits are added, which would pave the way for removal of the credits temporarily extended to June 30th.

Mike

Great that they added another credit but I’m more annoyed than anything. We have a 5 night stay at a Hilton resort starting on Dec 31st. At check in I will have them charge 2x Hilton Surpass cards, and 6x Plat Biz cards $50 each, and 2x Hilton Aspire cards $200 each. Then do it all over again before we check out. The front desk will love me. Absolutely ridiculous but its the game we’re playing.

Pierre

You just have to do it at check out……….only need one card at check in

kayexalate

@mike: Can you call them to prepay some on each card before 12/31?

Julius

FM team, Can I use it on SLH properties like the Hilton business and Surpass?

Lee

The text states that any “eligible charges” will qualify for the credit. For guidance, I’d look at what “eligible charges” are for the credits on Hilton’s co-branded cards.
