Quick Thoughts
I never get terribly excited about Amex Gift Card offers because options for easily liquidating them have mostly dried up in recent years. That said, if you have a way to make use of these, you may come out a bit ahead of the game.
Doctor of Credit notes that he thinks these cards count toward spending requirements but don’t earn rewards. I am pretty sure they do not earn rewards — I do not know whether they count toward meeting spending requirements for either welcome bonuses or things like Delta status boosts. If any readers take advantage of the offer to pick up spend toward regular card spending bonuses, please let us know if the spend ends up counting.
I found both offers on cards in my household, but I probably won’t be using either one since I don’t have a good use in mind for the cards yet.

This ‘deal’ was in my Amex Offers for the Platinum card on Monday, but gone by Tuesday. I hesitated and lost. My wife saved it to her biz card.
Will use it for a tax payment and come out ahead.
Any idea of these can be used at giftcards.com? Paying $974 for ($250 + $6 per card, times 4 cards, minus $50 back) for $1000 worth of Visa gift cards and getting 3072 AA miles (+ loyalty points) isn’t a bad deal for those chasing AA status.
I’ve never used these offers before, I assuming I can do 3 X $100 separate transactions instead of a single $300?
Nice, so if I spend $101,000 on these cards, I don’t save $50?
Wow, impressive Amex.
What happened to the 3% cash back sites and miles too? Now that was something!!
If you shop Costco a simple use it to buy a costco cash card at costco.com as you can use AMEX to pay for it online.
Yes, but i could get at least 2% back not using it for that
Costco does not accept AMEX.
costco.com does.
When I log into costco.com and try to check out, Amex is not listed as an accepted payment. Is there a way around this?
I put in an Amex card anyway just to see, and I got this error message:
Costco no longer accepts American Express. Please provide a new payment method to continue.
