Questions?
Please read: Everything you ever wanted to know about Amex gift cards.  And, if you still have questions, please ask via the comments of that post so that we can keep information about Amex gift cards in one place.

Important notes:

  • Amex gift cards do not have PINs.  They cannot be used to load Bluebird cards.
  • Some credit card companies charge cash advance fees when purchasing these online. Please read Everything you ever wanted to know about Amex gift cards for details.
  • Recently it seems that portals no longer pay out when using a promo code to waive shipping or card fees.  Best bet is pay the card fee and subscribe to premium shipping for free delivery.
  • Some portals restrict the top card amount to $500.  You can easily circumvent this by logging into your Amex account (after clicking through from the portal) and then you’ll see values up to $3000.  Yes, you should still get cash back or miles (that has been my experience).
  • Cash back can take several months to go from pending to payable.
  • Miles often take several weeks or even a month or more to post, but then appear immediately in your mileage account.

BeFrugal is offering them at 3% now. They always address my tickets and issues fairly fast. As far as payments goes, I am still waiting on my first round of ACG to even be acknowledged by AMEX (I didn’t have cookies setup correctly). This second go around, BeFrugal has tracked each click and I’ve seen pending credits post in a day or less. But AMEX keeps declining my purchases so I also have a bunch of debits on my account. I’ve tried a few combinations, hopefully one will work eventually.

Thanks. Just posted QuickDeal about BeFrugal

I got stiffed by TCB for other purchases, no AGC, but they have terrible customer service, they rarely get back to you and if they do they say they are waiting for the merchant confirmation which apparently never comes. Any have a number or good email address for TCB so I can give them an earful.

Where either of you (John or Gabriel) using promo codes with your orders? Amex recently changed their systems to no longer give portal payouts when codes are used for free shipping or fee free gift cards.

John

I used promo codes on two of the three orders but that was before they changed. They still paid out on small purchases in the same time period but not on the three Amex GC purchases (my wife did not get any payout for Amex GC either). They blamed my web browser but when I ask why the small purchases went through and not the Amex GC they had no answer.
I will no longer use TopCashBack and I actively tell others not to also.

Gabriel Martinez

I just got stiffed on $4,500 from TCB recently as well…not looking forward to getting back into *this* game.

John

I would be careful of TopCashBack. My last three purchases through them for Amex cards (9k worth) were never paid out. When I inquired with the details of the transactions the response amounted to, Oh well better luck next time.
