There’s another, targeted Amex Offer out for Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) that’s quite good. The offer gives 25,000 bonus Membership Rewards points after spending $1000+ with the airline.

We value Membership Rewards points at ~1.55 each, so the 25k points would be around a 39% rebate on a $1,000 purchase. That’s tasty if you can use it.

The Deal

  • Spend $1000+ in one or more purchases with ANA & get 25,000 bonus Amex Membership Rewards points with a new, targeted Amex Offer.
    • Enrollment required.
  • Expires 3/10/2024.
    • Travel can occur after 3/10, but flights must be booked and paid for by that date.

Key Terms

  • Offer valid for purchases made directly with All Nippon Airways through U.S. website fly-ana.com, All Nippon Airways U.S. App, and U.S. reservation telephone line: 1-800-235-9262.
  • Flights must originate in the U.S., including U.S. territories.
  • Offer valid only for purchases where All Nippon Airways is the merchant of record, such as airfare, fare upgrades, seat selection fees and baggage fees. Excludes the following: (i) in-flight purchases of WiFi, entertainment, or phone service, (ii) standalone hotel bookings and car rentals, (iii) purchases through third parties or affiliated agents, (iv) code share flights or ANA flights operated by partner airlines, (v) duty free shopping and orders, (vi) travel insurance/trip protection, Mobile Rental Service, and Bid My Price.
  • Valid only on purchases made in US dollars.

Quick Thoughts

This is the second time this year that we’ve seen this Amex Offer from ANA…and it’s a good one. The terms say the flights have to originate in the US; we don’t have data points to say whether or not that’s enforced. Surcharges on award tickets would seem to be a valid charge.

Not everyone on the FM Team has this offer, so it appears to be at least somewhat targeted…maybe that’s because we now have an unsavory reputation after taking over an ANA first class cabin during our Party of 5 Challenge earlier last year. Regardless, if you have the offer and want to use it, I’d do it sooner than later.

Ideally, you’d get this on an Amex Platinum card, so that you could combine the 5x earning on travel purchased from airlines and the 25,000 bonus, for a total of 30k points on a $1,000 purchase.

My ANA award tickets fees total to $930. Any idea how to charge an extra $70? 🙁

JohnDoe

Had this on 3x cards yesterday morning and they are gone today.

TravelGeek

You didn’t add it to any of your cards?

I think some (all?) offers have a signup limit (to cap the maximum expense for the merchant), so once enough people have added it, it will disappear for everyone else who was originally targeted.

JohnDoe

Forgot to because I was aiming to add it with max rewards.

About to book an ANA RTW, but I don’t think my tax and fee levels will get to the $1000 level – it’s only one ticket and I’ve plotted this out very carefully to avoid the worst offenders. If I were going to get close though, I’d investigate further and see if it would trigger the deal. We’ll see what ANA prices it at vs. my estimate.

How did it go?

I had this offer from a while back, the biggest issue (DPs) I am seeing is, even from the US website, ANA is charging fees in YEN vs US dollars for taxes on award seats at least which isn’t trigger the offer. I would love some DPs on those who’ve successfully trigger the over for taxes on award flights

Amy

Hi, I just booked 2 award tickets (economy) directly from the ANA website. It was for SFO to ICN. The taxes were ~$1,200. It triggered the offer and the MR points posted within a few days after the charge was posted to my card.

KM985

Awesome! Was this from the US website? Did they charge in US dollars?

Amy

Hi, I booked it on the US website. The taxes were shown in USD and I was charged in USD. I would recommend clicking on the link Amex provided in their offer. I didn’t do that, but I checked after the fact and that Amex link brought me to the same site that I booked my award tickets. And most importantly, it triggered the offer 🙂

KM985

Perfect, thank you so much! I just have to find avaliability again. I’m hoping to do ANA the room

Amy

Great! Good luck! I was hoping for business class seats and was unsuccessful. I had to split up my family to just get economy seats for the 2024 Christmas holiday travel.

KM985

Oh no, that sucks. Yeah they’re probably the worst website with looking for flights but I found round trip business class in November but I didn’t pull the trigger since I seen so many dp on it posting in YEN, so I’ll go back on the search now. I’m a little bit more flexible in my dates and the ones I found were 85k with $630 taxes and fees roundtrip

This is showing on all of my cards when looking at MaxRewards. If I’m reading this right, I would only be able to use this once, right? I wouldn’t be able to use it on all five of my cards that it shows I have accepted the offer on.

25k+5k on 1k spend is insane value. I know this might be an apples-to-oranges comparison, but between the highly targeted nature of this campaign and that the prices on ANA and JP are significantly high compared to ZIPFLY, I think the $150 back on $750 on Zipfly is also a worthy deal for economy travel to Japan. More so if you have 2 cards with this offer so you could make separate bookings and get both CB.
