Quick Thoughts

As always, you’ve got to shop around to make sure you’re getting a competitive rate. Use a tool like CashBackMonitor.com to compare rates and look at historical rates over the past 15 months.

Without having referenced these against Cash Back Monitor, the following is a list of stores that stood out to me on a quick scroll that may be notable.

Luggage Guy: 26x
ShoeMall: 24x
eBags: 20x
1800PetMeds: 20x
Sears: 12x
Kroger Ship: 12x
HP.com: 10x
FedEx Office: 10x
Wine.com: 10x
Sam’s Club: 8x
Office Depot / Max: 8x
Staples: 6x

I don’t believe any online gift card purchases at Staples / Office Max have been tracking for quite a while now, but I always click through a portal just in case.

Also keep in mind that some stores carry a surprising variety of stuff. For example, ShoeMall carries an assortment of sunglasses and luggage / bags. I don’t know as though any of them are competitively priced, but I always look at portal increases like this for opportunities to stack Amex Offers / Chase Offers and unexpected values.

On that note, it’s worth mentioning that there was just a new round of Chase Offers with Staples at 5-25% back this week, so it’s worth checking to see if you can stack this if you have a purchase to make at Staples. If you’re looking for a really cheap Chromebook, I bought this one last week for $69.99 with coupon code 14408 (which I believe is still working). Stacking with a Chase Offer and 6x that would make for a really cheap laptop that might make for a good gift for a kid or family member without a need for complex computer activity. I bought it thinking about taking it on the #40KFaraway challenge and it’s scheduled to be delivered today, but then I settled on a different (more expensive laptop-replacement type) Chromebook, so I’m planning to return mine.

[…] Increased Avios payouts through portal (10x HP, 6x Staples, 26x luggage, and more) […]

Christian

My emails from BA give my bonus avios as being based on UK pounds rather than US dollars, which is pretty much a scam, since I’m based in the US. 12 Avios per pound at Kroger is much worse. Then again, maybe this is just a major glitch.

I love Avios but still have some mixed feeling about using shopping portals, I’ve seldom received the points promised. Hopefully this one is different

[…] seeing as it’s available both online and in-store. If you’re not planning on buying a discounted Chromebook like Nick, you can always buy a $100 gift card to lock in the discount/rewards. Although the terms exclude […]

I have very negative feelings about the Avios shopping portal as well. In June, based on the link from this site, I did the Air B &B deal for first time hosts. Followed the directions exactly on the shopping portal link, but never received the 40000 Avios. Another friend of mine is having the same issue. Other people on Facebook said it was a scam. Has anyone had any luck with this?

Carter

I submitted a ticket on this, and after providing info, the 30,000 Avios now show as pending in my account. So while I haven’t actually gotten the 30k deposited, they at least show as pending.

Gladys

Who did you submit the info to?

Carter

There is a form to fill out on the Avios site in your account for a missing Avios claims. Then I got an email maybe a week or 2 later saying they are looking into it. A few weeks after that, I got an email asking for more info about the stay. And then a few weeks after that, I got an email saying the pending points would show up in my account soon. And they now show as pending. But its been pending for multiple weeks now. Not sure when they will actually deposit

Jules

I’ve come to the conclusion that The BA Avios shopping portal is a total fraud. I’m still waiting on my 30k Avios for the Airbnb hosting offer from June. My repeated email requests for an update always receive the same reply: “We’re still investigating…blah blah blah”.
