- Bonus points will be awarded by Marriott Bonvoy in your Marriott Bonvoy account when your transfer is complete.
Quick Thoughts
Although a 50% transfer bonus rate sounds interesting, this still won’t end up being worthwhile for most people. That’s because even when accounting for that bonus, you can still likely get even better value by transferring Ultimate Rewards to Hyatt or airline partners for premium cabin flights.
Having said that, if you just need to top up your Marriott account for a specific high value redemption, getting a 50% transfer bonus could be worth considering. Don’t forget that Marriott is a transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards too. If I did need to top up my Marriott account, I might be more inclined to transfer from Amex even though they don’t currently offer a transfer bonus to Marriott as I have a larger balance of Membership Rewards than Ultimate Rewards and I’d rather save the latter for Hyatt stays.
I save Marriott points for the 5th night free awards and then it brings the point value way up. Have had many great nights at aspirational properties because of Marriott!
I will be transferring some points with this bonus for the same reason. Marriott gets justifiable criticism for the meh valuation of points on many redemptions as they’ve weakened their program from what it used to be. But there are still properties where you can get 1cpp or more on redemptions (either because of its routinely high prices or surge pricing for a busy weekend). Stack 5th night free and this transfer bonus and you can get 2cpp or better value for one UR point.
I have a specific redemption in mind for next year so I fall in that special category of when it can make sense. My calculation is also different from the FM team where I don’t value Hyatt as highly so the UR value changes. I’m not Globalist and have no shot at reaching it – don’t travel 60 nights a year and what work travel I have is to locations often without Hyatts (sometimes without Marriotts too!). Meanwhile I do have Platinum with Marriott from credit cards, stays, and elite night promotions combined.
Music to my ears! Contrary to may people in the community I find a lot of value in Marriott points. I already ran the limit for buying them so I have been waiting for this bonus.
