New Delta Amex Offers showed up for some cardholders yesterday which are offering some decent savings. These offers appear to be highly targeted, so it’s worth checking all your cards in case only one of those has been targeted.

Delta Amex Offer spend $500 & get $100 back

The Deal

  • Spend $250 with Delta & get $75 back with an Amex Offer, or
  • Spend $500 with Delta & get $100 back with an Amex Offer.

Key Terms

  • Offer valid for purchases made directly with Delta Air Lines through U.S. delta.com, via Fly Delta U.S. App, and U.S. reservation telephone line.
  • Flights must originate in the U.S., including U.S. territories, in order to qualify.
  • Offer valid only for purchases where Delta Air Lines is the merchant of record, such as airfare, fare upgrades, seat selection fees, baggage fees, standby fees, and Delta Sky Club memberships.
  • Excludes the following: (i) purchases in-person at the airport where Delta is not the merchant of record, lounges, and sales offices, (ii) all purchases on-board flights including food, beverage, and WiFi, (iii) stand alone hotel bookings and car rentals through delta.com, (iv) purchases through third parties or affiliated agents, and (v) Delta Vacations, Delta Dive, Delta Cargo, On Demand Charter services, Delta Flight Museum, SkyMiles Marketplace purchases, SkyMiles Experiences, SkyMiles Cruises, Delta Meeting Network, (vi) travel insurance/trip protection, gift card purchases, and charitable donations.
  • Valid only on purchases made in US dollars.

Quick Thoughts

Once upon a time it was possible to buy Delta gift cards from a specific link in order to lock in the discount. That’s sadly no longer an option because all Delta gift card purchases online now seem to be processed by CashStar.

Still, this is good offer if you need to book any flights with Delta in the coming months. Note that flights have to originate in the US, so the statement credit presumably won’t work if you were to book a one-way ticket on Delta to the US.

I’m assuming that this would work on round-trip international award bookings originating in the US where the taxes and fees are high enough to be able to trigger the statement credit. For example, a round-trip ticket from Atlanta to Cancun can be had for 17,000 SkyMiles + $109 in taxes and fees. If there were three of you traveling and you have the Amex Offer which only requires $250 of spend, the taxes and fees would be enough to hit that threshold.

You want to read the MEAB (Miles Earn and Burn) web site. Google “break correlation” (and the site name).

Correct Stephen — highly targeted by MSA/geography.

Quibbling with your example, no one in ATL will ever see an AMEX offer for DL. The data points have born this out from DoC and OMAAT for this one (and some past offers where we started figuring their logic out). ATL/SLC hub residents are definitely out of luck as are likely DTW/LAX. I don’t know MSP’s market share breakdown for DL but apparently some folks are getting the offer there.

Otherwise most offers are in battleground areas for DL with a lot of DPs in (rough order): SEA/BOS/NYC/DC/RDU. Bottom line: if you’re in a DL hub city, I wouldn’t search too hard…

Joe

DTW area resident here! My friends and I in the Detroit area actually have received the offer so I’d definitely take a quick look no matter where you are!

Thanks, good to know. That’s the first DTW DP. Maybe that’s a more competitive MSA than I thought?

Ditto. Received offer in ATL so doesn’t seem to necessarily be the case this time.

Dom

Doesn’t ever hurt to check – ATL based and received the 250/75 on my Delta Plat Card
