American Airlines is apparently sending out a new round of offers for AA elites to fast track to Hyatt elite. Stephen Pepper, who has AA Executive Platinum status only because of his Hyatt status, received this email today:
Stephen, fast track to elite status with World of Hyatt
Because you are an AAdvantage® elite member, you now have an exclusive opportunity to quickly earn elite status in World of Hyatt. Here’s how it works:
- Register by October 2, 2020
- After registering, stay ten qualifying nights at any Hyatt hotel within 90 days of registration and you’ll enjoy World of Hyatt status through February 2022
- Remember, as an AAdvantage® elite member with linked accounts, you’re already earning 1 AAdvantage® bonus mile for every $1 you spend on Hyatt stays. That’s on top of the World of Hyatt points you already earn as a member
- Choose from 1,000+ locations around the globe, including brands like Park Hyatt, Thompson Hotels, Andaz and Grand Hyatt
And, upon clicking through he found that the fast track requires earning 20 elite nights within 90 days to get Globalist status through February 28, 2022:
Upon registration, the Eligible Member will have 90 days (“Qualification Period”) to achieve Explorist status through February 28, 2022 by completing ten (10) Tier-Qualifying Nights (as defined in the World of Hyatt program terms) or achieve Globalist status through February 28, 2022 by completing twenty (20) Tier-Qualifying Nights.
Those with AA status lower than Executive Platinum probably aren’t offered the option to fast track to Hyatt Globalist, but please let me know if I’m wrong about that.
Perfectly timed to foil us, but still a great time to fast track
If I did my calendar math correctly, a person who waits until October 2 to enroll would have until December 31st to complete the 20 elite nights. Unfortunately, the key to maximizing value from the Hyatt’s double elite nights promo is to check out on January 1, 2, 3, or 4. In other words, Hyatt smartly fixed this offer so that you can’t maximize the opportunity to earn double elite nights with the Bonus Journeys promo (see our Hyatt mattress running Q&A for details).
That said, thanks to the many overlapping Hyatt promos going on between October 1 and the end of the year, this is a great time to take advantage of the fast track if you get this offer! You would earn up to triple points back on award nights, or triple or even quadruple points on paid nights. Plus, you’ll get a great head start on re-qualifying for status next year. See this post for details: Rocking Hyatt’s overlapping promos. Top tier status is easier than ever.
I’m AA Platinum. They only offer 10 nights for Explorist.
I wish they could offer me to hit globalist. 20 nights aren’t that difficult.
So, I probably will wait for double elite night promo, which means check out on Jan 4, 2021.
Does anyone happen to know I dont have to be physivally present check in if I choose check in electronically on the app? Due to Covid-19, they have those contactless options. I wonder if I’m able I check in and out remotely.

My offer was for 10 nights in that time frame for Hyatt Globalist. I also am AA EP from a gift of Hyatt. I’m already Hyatt Globalist through next year anyway so no value to me.
Are you sure? Stephen’s email said he could keep Hyatt status with 10 nights, but when he clicked through to read the details he found that it was 10 nights for Explorist and 20 for Globalist.
Anyway, Stephen is in exactly the same situation: there’s no value in it for him.
You are correct. I never did the click through and assumed the 10 nights for elite status was for Globalist. My offer is indeed identical to his.
Sorry for the confusion.
What you’ve written is confusing:
“a person who waits until October 2 to enroll would have until December 31st to complete the 20 elite nights. In other words, Hyatt smartly fixed this offer so that you can’t take advantage of the opportunity to earn double elite nights by checking out on January 1st with the Bonus Journeys promo”
I don’t see a conflict, other than with a Oct 2nd enrollment date, this fast-track promo’s 90-day period would end on 12/29 – only six days before the Bonus Journeys/double elite-credit promo’s ending on 01/04.
I can see why it was confusing. I edited that section to try to clear it up. The key point I was trying to make is that you can maximize value from the double elite night promo by checking out on January 1st rather than December 31st or earlier. But you can’t then complete this deal if you check out on January 1.
Thx for replying 🙂
Indeed, unless one is trying to hit 60 nights in 2020 (for the 4 Suite certificates).
They’ve already extended my Globalist status thru Feb 2022 whether I hit 60 nights this year or not. But, with all the current promotions, it’s worth the stretch for me get my remaining 28 nights for those Suite certificates (since they haven’t and likely won’t be extended like the CAT 1-4 certs were).
Prior to the announcement of the double elite-credit promotion, I would have been doing the checking-out on Jan 1st thing (as I’ve done many years in the past)
Either way, it’s a win. A literal embarrassment of riches with all these promos right now.
