Quick Thoughts
This appears to be a targeted Hyatt Regency Amex Offer. My wife and I both have it on our personal Membership Rewards-earning cards, but not any of our business cards. Be sure to check all your cards though because you might have it available on different types of cards.
Note that there are a couple of key restrictions with this Amex Offer – it’s only valid at the Hyatt Regency brand and only at their properties in the US and US territories. While that’s not as useful compared to past Hyatt Amex Offers That have been good at any of their brands, it does still give you ~100 eligible properties where you can use the offer.
Even if you don’t have a Hyatt Regency stay coming up before mid-July, it might still be possible to lock in the 20% discount by buying a $300 Hyatt gift card from the front desk of a Hyatt Regency property. Be sure to verify before paying for the gift card that they’ll be issuing you with a physical gift card though because eGift card purchases are processed by Buyatab and so won’t trigger the statement credit from this Amex Offer.
Are you aware of any way to add it to more than one card per Amex sign-in? Not sure if all those tricks are dead
The T&C clearly state that gift card purchases are excluded, but you’re suggesting folks buy gift cards directly from the hotel. Can you give a little more background on why you’re recommending this? Has it worked in the past in previous Amex offers maybe? It would be a great workaround, but also not worth the effort if a few months pass before finding out it didn’t work.
With past Amex Offers and Chase Offers for Hyatt, if a hotel sells physical Hyatt gift cards at the front desk, that’s worked to trigger the statement credits for these offers. I’ve done it myself with past Amex Offers, so it’s definitely worked in the past and there’s no reason to think it won’t work again. The bigger issue is finding a Hyatt Regency that sells physical gift cards in the first place and has a front desk agent who knows how to process them.
I think the exclusion for gift cards is there because buying Hyatt gift cards online doesn’t work due to payment being processed by Buyatab.
Does the reservation have to be booked through hyattregency.com? Or hyatt.com is good? I have a room booked through their private sale but through hyatt.com
Booking via Hyatt.com is fine because HyattRegency.com redirects to Hyatt.com.
I got it on my ancient Blue. If a physical gift card purchase would work, I’ll run down to San Diego and buy one.
Yups it does work on gift card purchases, I just tried at HR Lake Tahoe
Ok great. I’m in Clearwater and there is a Hyatt Regency down the street from me. I’ll see if they have physical gift cards.
