The Staples weekly ad is out and next week Staples will have 10% off on all Happy Gift Cards from 11/18/18 to 11/24/18. The ad doesn’t explicitly say that it will be in-store only, but the fine print does say to see the gift card fixture for more details, so I’d expect this is going to be an in-store deal. Further, it says one offer per transaction in the details. This could be a great deal, especially when combined with a card that earns 5x at office supply stores like the Chase Ink Cash card.
The Deal
- Get 10% off on Happy Gift Cards at Staples this Sunday, 11/18/18 through 11/24/18 (subject to availability)
- Direct link to the weekly ad (this is on Page 4 of next week’s ad)
Key Terms
- Likely in-store only (though not impossible that it may apply online)
- One offer per transaction
Quick Thoughts
For those unfamiliar, Happy Gift Cards are a relatively new oddball kind of gift card. These cards work similar to a Visa Gift Card, but they are restricted to specific merchants. For example, the Happy Guy gift card works at Home Depot, AutoZone, Buffalo Wild Wings, etc. The Happy Lady gift card works at Sephora, Bed Bath & Beyond, Lord & Taylor, etc. I’m not sure that Staples carries the same selection in-store, but here are some examples from GiftCardMall:
Those of particular interest are likely Happy Guy, Happy Lady, and Happy Teen. I definitely haven’t seen all of these in-store, but the Staples ad lists the SKUs, so you could look up what may be available or just head to your store on Sunday (or head there today to take advantage of the fee-free Visa Gift Card promo and scope out what you can buy next week).
Since the terms state one offer per transaction rather than per customer, YMMV on buying multiple…though I’d argue that buying multiple in one transaction is using one offer since the offer is 10% off on all Happy Gift Cards. Good luck convincing a manager who doesn’t want to hear it, but overall this promo should work out pretty nicely for most who can take advantage.

I remember when these were first rolled out (I think it’s only been a few months) that they used to be 20% off. Then they went down to 15%, now they’re 10%. They must be selling well.
Also, why Happy Lady and Teen? I think the Guy can he used at Home Improvement stores to purchase other gift cards, I assume.
You don’t assume the same with others?
I remember we could add PIN to the Home Improvement cards from years ago. Can we add PIN to these?
Sounds a little sexist. Class action suit when they don’t take my Happy Guy card at Bed Bath and Beyond!
