Preferred Hotels and Resorts is yet another marketing group and booking channel that represents more than 650 independent hotels and resorts across 85 countries (similar to Small Luxury Hotels or Mr & Mrs Smith). It’s been on our radar because of its partnership with Choice Privileges, which allows Choice members to book properties that are members of Preferred Hotels with Choice points (although the value to recently took a hit when Choice drastically increased the pricing on many properties).
I Prefer is the rewards program of Preferred Hotels. Award Wallet recently published a status match opportunity that I Prefer is offering which allows Air Canada Aeroplan elite members or credit card holders to match for a full year of top tier I Prefer Titanium status. This means that folks who only have the Chase Aeroplan card are eligible to match for a full year of I Prefer Titanium status.
The Deal
- Air Canada Aeroplan elite members and credit card holders are eligible for a match to a full year of Preferred Hotels I Prefer Titanium Status
- Additionally, first time enrollees will earn 500 I Prefer points for joining
Direct Link to Offer (for new members)
- If you’re already an I Prefer member, you can request a match by calling Aeroplan at 800-361-5373 and mentioning the promo.
Quick Thoughts
This is undoubtedly a niche opportunity, but for folks who have the Aeroplan card (or who are an Air Canada elite) and are interested in high-end hotel stays, it seems like a no brainer to at least enroll.
There are three tiers in the I Prefer program; Titanium is the highest. Benefits include
- Room upgrades based on availability
- Food and beverage credit
- Welcome amenity
- Early check-in/late checkout based on availability
- 50% bonus points on cash stays
I have no idea how well these benefits are administered, but if you have (or plan to make) a Preferred Hotels booking and are eligible for the match, it’s worth taking a shot to see.
They match status. I got titanium from having matched Hilton Diamond.
Didnt preferred / choice thing just get nerfed?
FYI, individual properties can opt out of award stays. That is, while members will earn points there for paid stays, members are unable to redeem points there for free nights. On the iPrefer website, properties at which one may redeem points for free nights will so state. In the absence of such an indication, one may not. Just call the iPrefer service center and they will confirm this. Pretty (messed) up.
