Great Delta Reserve upgrade offer: 60K + $300 [targeted]

11

Several members of our Frequent Miler Insiders Facebook group have reported a great upgrade offer for the Delta Reserve credit card. While this offer isn’t as good as the new cardmember offer that is currently available, it is a great opportunity for those who do not qualify for the new cardmember offer and/or who want to preserve a 5/24 slot among other advantages noted below.

The Deal

  • Amex is targeted some Delta Platinum SkyMiles cardholders with an offer to upgrade to the Delta Reserve SkyMiles for a bonus of 60,000 miles and a $300 statement credit after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 6 months
  • Find this offer via email or he Amex Offers section of your online account

Quick Thoughts

Again, the current new cardmember offer on the Delta Reserve card is a better deal at the moment given that it comes with more redeemable miles and a hefty chunk of MQMs.

However, if you don’t qualify for the new cardmember offer (because you’ve had the card before) or you don’t want to give up a 5/24 slot, this upgrade offer looks excellent. The $300 statement credit takes a lot of the sting out of the annual fee and the 60K miles are a nice bonus.

Furthermore, this could work out well from a timing standpoint. For instance, Greg’s wife downgraded her Reserve to a Delta Platinum just a couple of months ago and now received this upgrade offer to go back to the Reserve card. If her renewal date were coming up soon, now might be a great time to upgrade in order to get a first class companion certificate from the Reserve card upon renewal.

If you currently have a Delta Platinum card, it’s worth keeping an eye on your email (the subject line of the message Greg’s wife received was, “A $300 Statement Credit + 60K Bonus Miles – Highest Bonus Miles offer available for Upgrades”) or the Amex Offers section of your online account to see if you’ve been targeted for an upgrade bonus.

Keep in mind that the upgrade offer does not come with bonus MQMs, so the upgrade won’t get you closer to elite status. However, it will give you access to the Reserve’s 2021 status boosts, so you certainly can still spend your way to some MQMs. For more information about the Delta Reserve card and the public welcome offer, see our Delta Reserve card page (just keep in mind that you won’t find this targeted upgrade offer there).

I have this offer as well

If I just received my bonus 12,500 MQM due to $25,000 spent on my platinum card

Can I upgrade now and get the 18,500 after $30,000 spent

Greg The Frequent Miler

Yes

Mike

How about if I’ve already exceeded $30,000 on a platinum card? I called Amex and they were unable to answer this. Thanks!

Greg The Frequent Miler

Yes. For example, you can do this all in one year:

  1. Spend $50K on Delta Platinum card and earn 2 x 10K = 20K MQMs (more this year due to 25% bonus)
  2. Upgrade to Delta Reserve
  3. Spend $120K on Delta Reserve card and earn 4 x 15K = 60K MQMs (more this year due to 25% bonus)

Player 2 got this offer via email. I used the offer instead. I got my new Amex Delta Business Reserve in the mail yesterday.

Any DPs on receiving this as a retention offer when you call in?

Lagaleven

I have recently scene an upgrade offer from Gold to Platinum for 50k+$200 for $3k spend in 6 mo.

Does Amex not extend upgrade offers to those who have recently received a retention offer as I received a month ago on the Delta Plat.

Travelin'Dandy

Why do I NEVER get the good offers?

Mark

Nick,
My son got an email offer for 40K points with $2000 spend requirement to upgrade his Delta Blue to a Delta Gold. No $$ bonus, but the $99 fee for the Gold card is waived for the first year.

Andrew

I got the same thing and went through with it
