Hy-Vee has launched a promotion this week that’s offering a $10 instant discount when buying $150 or more of Visa gift cards. This profitable deal is made even better by the fact that there doesn’t seem to be any restriction on how many you can buy.
The Deal
- Buy $150+ Visa gift cards at Hy-Vee and save $10.
- Direct link to weekly ad (see page 19).
Key Terms
- Expires November 28, 2019.
Quick Thoughts
The description of this offer in Hy-Vee’s weekly ad is interesting due to what it doesn’t mention – any kind of limit on how many times you can take advantage of this promotion.
I’m not too familiar with how Hy-Vee’s Visa gift card deals work as they seem to be pretty infrequent – I’m not aware of them running a deal like this so far during 2019. Seeing as it doesn’t require a digital coupon though, it seems like you should be able to buy as many VGCs as you want, although you’d likely need to do that in separate transactions in order to trigger the $10 discount.
This should work on variable load VGCs, so being able to make a few dollars of profit on each one is a pretty sweet deal and that’s even before taking into account the credit card rewards you’ll earn, especially when paying with a card that earns more at grocery stores.
Due to the seemingly unrestricted nature of this promotion, I suspect it’ll be popular for those that live near a Hy-Vee store. It’s therefore probably better to buy these ASAP in case your store runs out of cards.
This is NOT dead—at least not in my city. My wife and I drove around to 12 HyVees yesterday and we each bought 2- $500 VGC. The amount charged to each of us was roughly $951. So we made $98 per stop and 8,000 MR points at each stop. Nearly $1,200 and 96,000 points from yesterday will go well towards our upcoming trip to Italy! Not only that—but unwinding $500 VGC is SO much easier than unwinding $200 VGC! Man I love Hy Vee this time of year!
hearing rumors that this is dead
Not at my store.
It seems to be $10 per $150. I bought a single Visa GC for $500 and received $30 instant discount, paid by credit card.
How do u get this offer
This offer has expired I’m afraid.
$30 off $1k. Very nice
FWIW – most Hy-Vee limit closed loop GC sales to $1k/day and many are cash/PIN debit only. Still worthwhile but plan accordingly.
