Quick Thoughts

Hyatt Residence Vacation Club is an odd one. It’s not actually owned by Hyatt, as it was purchased by Marriott Vacations Worldwide in 2018 (yes, you read that right). Marriott Vacations is a separate company from Marriott International and also has the various flavors of Bonvoy Vacation and Residence Clubs (Sheraton, Westin, etc). In 2021, they bought nine resorts from the family of polka-legend Lawrence Welk with the goal of eventually integrating them into Hyatt Residence Club. Bizarre, huh? Now the combination of the Welk and old HRC properties are officially Hyatt Vacation Club.

There are 21 total properties under the HVC umbrella, all in North America. They are part of World of Hyatt in the sense that members can earn and redeem points at the resorts and they participate in Hyatt Brand Explorer. However, similar to many Destination Hotels, there is no requirement that they honor any elite benefits (and most of them don’t).

The actual promotion is kind of lukewarm. Hyatt describes it as earning 3x “bonus” points, but the base earning of 5 points/dollar for members is included, so it’s really 2x bonus + base for a total of 15 points/dollar. We value Hyatt points at 2.1 cents each, so it’s like getting a ~30% return on cash stays. On its own, that’s very good, but with such a limited footprint it most likely won’t be useful for a lot of folks.

I can get many of those resorts cheaply through Interval but unlike Marriott, Hyatt timeshare bookings don’t add to your hotel points/nights.

FL Mom

You can book directly through interval if you are not a timeshare owner? I don’t see an option to book on their website, but I don’t have a login. Are their prices less than Hyatt and Marriott AAA/member discounts? Thank you!

Buzz

No. You must own a timeshare affiliated with Interval. Prices for desert units are cheap in the summer. But, you get no Hyatt credit. Oddly enough Marriott Vacation Club owns Hyatt Vacation Club and Welk.

Gordon

Do you need to own a timeshare to book using Interval?

Buzz

Yes.
