Doctor of Credit recently posted about another public offer that’s available for the IHG Premier card. It appears to be positioned as a “guest offer,” but can be accessed by anyone within the geographical US (and perhaps Canada).
Instead of the points that can be earned through the primary public offer, this version provides five 40K free-night certificates after spending $4k on the card within the first 3 months. Unlike the 60k certs we’ve seen used recently as welcome offers, these 40k certs can be topped off with extra points for more expensive awards, making them much easier to maximize.
We still prefer the current public version of the offers, although the total points are slightly lower. That’s because we would take 185,000 flexible points over 5 x 40k certificates that expire after a year. However, there may be some folks out there who know that they can max out all five of those certs within the first year, so we’ll list this version as an alternate offer.

Quick Thoughts
These are the usual 40k certs that IHG offers for cardholder anniversaries and various promotions. Although the number of properties that exceed 40k points per night is astronomical, the fact that they can be topped off with unlimited additional points makes the 40k threshold much easier to reach than with fixed-value certs that can’t be topped off.
That said, we’d strongly encourage anyone who doesn’t have firm plans on how they’ll use these certs to opt for the current 185K public offer. In the long run, the potential to earn an extra 15,000 points in value isn’t worth the fixed values and 12-month expiration dates on these certificates.
The Premier card also comes with an annual 40K free-night certificate, awarded on each card anniversary. To me, that cert is easily worth the $99 annual fee, making this card a keeper even after the first year anniversary.
