I was at Kroger yesterday to pick up some Thanksgiving supplies and take advantage of some of the current gift card promotions they are running (See: Kroger: Save $5 On $100 Mastercard or Visa GC, $4 On Multipak Visa GC – Stack w/ 4x Fuel Points and Kroger: Huge Selection Of Discounted Gift Cards + 4x Fuel Points) and I saw a coupon in my app good for $10 off your grocery purchase with the purchase of $50 or more in Happy gift cards. In small denominations, that’s even better than the current Staples deal (See: Get Happy: 10% off “Happy” cards next week at Staples) and since I am spending this week in a city with many Krogers and 0 Staples stores, this deal looked good enough for me. Unfortunately, it didn’t automatically trigger the discount, but it should and I thought it was worth a quick post of its own.

Quick Thoughts
Unfortunately, this one didn’t automatically trigger even though I was checking out with about a hundred bucks worth of groceries. As I don’t live near Kroger (I’m visiting family for Thanksgiving), I wasn’t sure if the $10 off coupon would later load to my account or something. It didn’t, and I see that several Slickdeals users have reported the same problem in this thread, but it sounds like it ought to be easy enough to get corrected at customer service (I’ll be stopping by this afternoon for some more groceries and to take advantage of a Hilton spending bonus, so I’ll see if I can get it adjusted with my receipt).
Assuming it works, this is a pretty good deal on the happy cards and the Kroger at which I stopped carried quite a few different cards (including ones I hadn’t seen in person like Happy Bride), especially if you’re planning to use these in conjunction with any Black Friday Deals. Hopefully, it’ll automatically trigger for you. Be sure you’re using a card that earns a good category bonus at US Supermarkets as well.
[…] Happy Bride) work at JCPenney (See: Get Happy: 10% off “Happy” cards next week at Staples or Kroger: $10 off grocery w/ $50+ Happy gift cards). Since those cards work more like a Visa Gift Card than a gift card, I bet it is likely possible […]

Did you have any luck getting the $10 credit at Kroger customer service? I had the same prob. last night. All the other Kroger gc discounts worked well and instantly. (though none of them had the grocery requirement….. I had more than the $10 on the same order as the $300+ “Happy Bride” card purchase…. Is Kroger going to try to claim that the deal only worked for some unspecified “Happy” cards? )
Yes. They first offered to refund the credit card used to pay, but I didn’t have that card with me. They ended up giving me a $10 Kroger gift card.
And I’ll also add that I went back through the line after that and got another happy card with my parents’ rewards card and it worked fine. Took the $10 off.
Wow, congrats Nick, and glad it apparently was working as designed today. I had a bad experience at Kroger in Charlottesville BR location, where I’d bought my Happy B card yesterday. Made a special side trip there again today, and the CSR seemed after a few minutes to recognize what had happened, then gave me the eye roll. As in, there was no problem, that I’d have to wait 24 hours for a $10 coupon to apply to my account, that I wasn’t patient enough, that the $10 would be taken off my NEXT grocery purchase…. I asked then would it come off any groceries I’d purchase today — and she hedged a bit and said, well, not likely if it hasn’t been 24 hours yet…… (In short, customer service be damned — it’s a crap shoot…. You might get it, you might not…. your time is wasted…. leave me alone, come back again tomorrow…. try your luck then.)
I politely asked her where it said any of this in the original coupon. (I had the original with me — and she didn’t want to look at it…. along the lines of they’ve had lots of people in there with similar complaints, but that’s her story and she was sticking to it)
curiously, that’s the story at national Kroger CS hq — that you have to wait a few hours for a $10 coupon to be posted to your account…
(but you won’t see it til you use it!)…. madness.
Kroger central rep. wasn’t interested in taking my name or card #…. just said she’d pass along the concern.
(By contrast, when I recently contacted Walmart about their web site break-down, they were quick to make it right — and $ubstantially so…. Tale of two mega corporations; one soaring higher; the other very much on the ropes)

I was ringing up groceries on my own on a kiosk, and when I found the coupon doesn’t showed on the screen, I called the attendant, they asked me to pay first and immediately refund me $10.
