Quick Thoughts

We’ve written a number of times this past week about the new Amex Platinum benefits, one of which is a $20 cellphone statement credit. If you don’t have an Amex Platinum card and are on a prepaid phone plan with one of the above companies, a 15% discount on their gift cards is a quick and easy way to save money on your plan.

Even better, Kroger is offering 4x fuel points on all third party gift cards right now. Those points can be redeemed on up to 35 gallons per fill-up, so your gas savings can be as high as 14% based on the amount you paid for the gift card.

Seeing as you’d be earning fuel points on gift cards which are discounted, you wouldn’t be saving 29% overall. Instead, your maximum savings would be 26.9% which is still an excellent deal if you can max that out.

You’ll also earn credit card rewards, but note that gift cards sold by Kroger online are processed by Blackhawk Network. This therefore won’t code as grocery, but it should qualify as bonused spend if you have a card that has online shopping as a bonus category such as the Bank of America Cash Rewards card.
