Offer valid only at participating Marriott Bonvoy™ properties in the U.S. and U.S. territories, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Qualifying purchase means a purchase at a participating Marriott property made during the offer period with your enrolled American Express Card and which is in an amount totaling at least $250 USD as posted to your account, following conversion from a foreign currency, if applicable, in accordance with your Cardmember Agreement. Offer is non-transferable. Limit of 1 statement credit per Card Member. The enrolled Card account must not be cancelled or past due to receive statement credit. Any benefit earned from this offer is in addition to the rewards (i.e. Membership Rewards or cash back) earned as part of your existing Card benefits, but your ability to earn spend-based rewards for the purchase will be based on the amount after any statement credit or other discount is applied. Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 12/31/2020, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying purchase is cancelled. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit. For example, your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you may not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it. By adding an offer to a Card, you agree that American Express may send you communications about the offer. POID: GFLT:0001
Quick Thoughts
This is an excellent deal. Prior to this year, most Marriott offers like these amounted to a 20% rebate if you spent the exact amount required to trigger the offer. This one amounts to a 30% rebate if you spend exactly $250, so that’s obviously much better.
This offer also overlaps with the offer to earn 10X at Marriott properties through 10/31/20. See details here.
While the terms exclude gift cards, I’ve had great luck with similar Amex Offers by buying Marriott gift cards at a hotel’s front desk (make sure not to buy them elsewhere, such as at the hotel gift shop). Not all Marriott hotels sell gift cards, so I recommend calling to ask before making a trip.

[…] offer that probably won’t stack is the Marriott Amex Offer giving $75 back when spending $250. I’m going to buy $300 worth of gift cards on the cards […]
Any insight to whether this would work at The Cosmpolitan in Vegas?
[…] Marriott: Spend $250, Get $75 Back: This works out to 30% back if you spend exactly $250. In the past, similar offers have amounted to 20% back so this is a nice improvement! […]
Not sure if this is old news but I have been looking at the AC Hotel Tucson and today there are “Bonvoy Escape” rates. Also seems like these rates are refundable as long as you cancel 1 day before the stay.
I’m seeing Escape rates at many properties around me, in NC.
Any deals to stack this with?
I was able to add this to my bonvoy brilliant card. My card anniversary just came up because my marriott stay last week week resulted in a $120 statement credit. If I have another upcoming stay for $350 next week, what will credit first the amex offer or the brilliant’s annual $300 credit? I hope this doesn’t prevent me from stacking or taking advantage of the amex offer…
They both should apply. Have done similar overlapping things before with Marriott (like extra points and the credit – extra points were added for the full amount). Also Dell on Biz Plat – extra points, cash back, and credit – all applied to the full amount. Seems like the deals are processed in parallel – not one after the other.
As I was adding the offer on the AU account, I noticed that it has the “earn +6 Marriott points” on gas purchases with a $7.5k cap. I’m already doing that on the primary account. The question is, Will the AU gas purchases earn 10 points as well, for a total cap of $15K on the same AMEX account? I know the offer is listed, but it’s on AU account after all. I mean somebody can potentially have 99 of such AU’s, right?
Hmmm, I don’t know
The AU is a separate account, so the earning rates would be the same as the offer on your account, but the spending limits are usually looked at separately unless the account itself has a maximum for normal spend. In summary, yes you would get 10x on your account for $7.5k and the AU account for $7.5k as I don’t think Amex has any normal cap on regular gas spend. Let us know how it goes in practice.
does the $250 have to be spent in one transaction or can it be separate charges adding up to $250?
It looks like it has to be in a single transaction.
Also had luck in the past getting gift cards at the front desk. They even create a “house account” if you are not staying at the hotel.
I didn’t see it excluded in the terms, but do you know if this would also apply to prepaid reservations made via the Marriott website? Also, is the $250 required spend after taxes, or is it room rate only (terms seem to suggest room rate, but not sure what happens in practice). Thanks!
Hmm, I like where you’re going with that. I don’t know, but I suspect that prepaid reservations would work. Can’t hurt to test it. $250 is after taxes.
and if you cancel the pre-paid reservation, do you have a way to refund to some kind of Marriott “travel funds” or will they refund to the original form of payment no matter what?
Good question
