Key Terms
- Must enroll by 1/31/23 and complete spend by 3/31/23
- Limit 1 enrolled card per member
- Valid only on purchases made in US dollars
- Mobile/digital wallet purchases may not be recognized as qualifying
- Bonus points will be credited within 90 days of 3/31/23
Quick Thoughts
This is an interesting departure from the standard Marriott Amex offers which give a statement credit for reaching a given level of spend at Marriott properties. This one is limited to Bonvoy Business cards only and is effectively a 3.75x spending bonus on $2000 total purchases.
The Bonvoy Business card has the following earning rates:
- 6x at Marriott properties (9.75x with Amex Offer)
- 4x on gas, dining, shipping and wireless phone service (7.75x with Amex Offer)
- 2x everywhere else (5.75x with Amex Offer)
The normal rates don’t really warrant putting non-brand spend on the card, but this Amex Offer could make it appealing.
Our recently updated Marriott Bonvoy Reasonable Redemption Values (RRV’s) have Bonvoy points pegged at 0.8 cents each. Using that, the Amex Offer brings the return on Marriott spend to 7.8%, the other bonused categories to 6.2% and base spending to 4.6%. These are all good rates, especially if you have spend at Marriott properties before April.
If it were me, I would most likely use the offer for Marriott spend and then buy a few gift cards from gas stations to make up the difference to $2K. That said, for some folks, it could still be worth using it towards organic spend as well, so long as the total spend is kept to as close to $2000 as possible.
Happy New Year, Tim! Will you please share which gas stations (besides 7-11) code as gas station with a gift card purchase? How do you also get around fraud dpt declines/alerts on your cards with large gas station purchases? Thanks
Happy New Year! In my area, I know that 7-11 and Speedway do and so I haven’t had to go further afield. It is fairly regionally-dependent. That said, you can always test your local gas station(s) out by trying a small purchase inside and seeing if it codes as gas. Believe it or not, I’ve only had one fraud decline on a $500+ gas. I cleared it on the app and continued with the purchase. One thing worth noting, for some reason my local stores will decline the purchase as being too large if I use tap-to-pay, but go right through if I use the chip.
THANK YOU – yes I had used TTP the first go round then chip now at another 7-11 & went thru perfectly! Appreciate the help
I have this on my primary and employee card –> do you think we can earn the bonus on both cards (so 7500 points twice from $2k spend on each card)?
Yes, if you are able to add the offer to each card (and they are in different names) it should track on both cards.
YMMV I tried doing this very thing a few months back on a Marriott stay offer. It tracked but then AMEX reversed the credit a month later.
Tim: So how does this work if you are in the middle of spending for your SUB? Like does this “stack” with that spending?
That’s exactly how it works!
Thanks. P2 & I will take 15K extra points while we’re chasing 200K. Keep up the good work.

I hope it pops up in mine. I’ve got a timeshare maintenance fee due that codes Marriott so win/win. Haven’t seen it yet.
Yes! Unfort the $300 credit now gone (x 3) that was sure helpful to reduce the HOA ouch

This offer stacks nicely with the 6% back at Belk offer through the end of the month if your card was also targeted for that one. Four separate purchases of $500 would earn 2875 Marriott Bonvoy Points, $30 cash back and whatever the current payout is for Rakuten in store purchases. I’ve seen rates get as high as 6x this month and 15x last month.
