Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is happening now! Follow us as Greg, Nick, and Stephen compete to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines before November 23rd. Who will complete the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?
And the hits keep coming. In the past, Marriott offered 10 elite night credits for every meeting you booked, offering a relatively cheap and easy way to earn status if you wouldn’t meet the requirements through actual stays.
That changed in 2018 when they limited the number of elite nights you could earn to 10 per year from meetings. That’s changing once again, so you’ll now earn zero elite night credits when booking a meeting.
This change is coming into force at the start of next year:
Beginning January 1, 2020:
Members will no longer earn ten (10) Elite Night Credits for the first event of the calendar year with Marriott Bonvoy Events. This change does not affect the current points/miles earn structure. Members who hold qualifying events at participating properties will continue to earn one (1) Elite Night Credit for every twenty (20) room nights actualized up to a maximum of twenty (20) Elite Night Credits per contract.
That means if you want to earn 10 elite night credits when booking a meeting, you’ll also need to book 200 room nights(!)
Greg shared last month how you could book a meeting online and pay only $100 to earn 10 elite night credits. See: Book Marriott meeting online for $100, get 10 elite nights. You now have fewer than two weeks to take advantage of this opportunity before it disappears completely at the end of the year.
At the rate this is going, we should probably expect Marriott to deduct 10 elite nights in 2021 for every meeting that you book.
If I book a meeting by end of year, I will hit next level. Can anybody tell me, when my status would last through? Would I have it for all of 2020 then? Or how does that work?
if you accrue the nights now, your status should last through next year.
Until February 2021.
More reason to MS platinum status instead.
how? 15 from CC, 3-5 CC certs, what else?
$75k on brilliant or RC. … reference: https://frequentmiler.com/is-it-worth-msing-marriott-platinum-status/

Nights need to be posted in the same calendar year, right? So if I have 17 nights this year, and do this for 10 more, it won’t be worth it, right? We already have Gold from Ritz card but we’d like to qualify for platinum again (which we earned through the ritz card when it was switched to bonvoy, without spend.
Yes, you need 50 nights by the of the month. In your case, it is not worth it
Can anyone tell me how quickly these elite nights post after the meeting? My conference took place on Decemcer 2. Is it too soon to be cncerned? If there is a problem who or where should I call….. Marriott or the hotel?
A day after my meeting, I received an Award Posted email from Marriott Bonvoy saying I earned 10 nights.
Should be within the normal time a stay would post. I would definitely look into it…I just finished a 3-week marathon of trying to get my 10 elite nights to post from my meeting. Back and forth between the property and Marriott, each blaming the other for the nights not posting. I opened a case through the Marriott Insiders group online and they got it solved for me (finally).
Mine posted in just three business days
mine was posted while still in the room. sadly she moved to another hotel after that.
Bonvoyed again. Sheesh. I just have problems understanding this mindset of the customer as the enemy.
People still care about Bonvoy status? How quaint.
It’s certainly not my favorite hotel loyalty program, but free breakfast, suite upgrades, a free night when hitting Titanium, etc. can still make it worth considering. It certainly offers better elite benefits than IHG Rewards Club.
Free breakfast and suite upgrades? Hope you don’t forget your secret decoder ring that tells when when you do or don’t actually get those benefits. The program is utter garbage. Better than IHG? The fact that this comparison is even made tells you everything you need to know. Bonvoy now is in a league with IHG. Pitiful. Vote with your feet and don’t set foot in another Marriott.
Breakfast is helpful when you have a family. But they only offer free breakfast for 2. If it’s just me and my wife, there are a ton of options we have. With the kids, breakfast at the hotel makes things easy.
Suite upgrades are nice but they are the exception rather than the rule in my 8 years as Plat. I don’t need a Presidential Suite when I’m traveling alone. I can definitely appreciate more space when I’m traveling with the family.
The free night from the credit card is more of a stresser than a benefit.
They’ve won. I don’t want to fight for upgrades or late checkouts or free breakfast or amenities. Screw you Marriott!
Almost as quaint as caring about what status other people value.
Then why are you here? Lost?
bummer I have one booked for 01/14/20, that’s out of the window now
It looks like it unfortunately.
Just thinking… if the contract had a 10-N credit, will it be honored?
If the contract you signed specifically lists that, I certainly think you’d have a case for having that honored. I’m not a lawyer though, so certainly can’t guarantee that.
Great post, keep up the good work, thanks for sharing
