American Express is offering a bonus when transferring Membership Rewards to Hilton Honors. It seems like some people aren’t seeing a transfer bonus at all, while others are being offered a ratio of either 1,000:2,6000 or 1,000:3,000, representing a 30-50% increase on the normal ratio.
The Deal
- Transfer Membership Rewards to Hilton Honors on a 1,000:2,600 or 1,000:3,000 basis.
Key Terms
- Expires December 31, 2018 at 11:59pm MT.
- Minimum transfer is 1,000 Membership Rewards points.
- Please allow up to eight weeks for the additional Hilton Honors Bonus Points to be awarded.
- Hilton Honors Bonus Points do not count towards elite tier qualification.
Quick Thoughts
If you’re targeted for the 1,000:3,000 transfer bonus, it’s worth considering if you have plans to stay at a Hilton property. It effectively makes a free night at one of their lowest tier hotels such as the Hilton Sharm Waterfalls Resort in Egypt only 1,667 Membership Rewards (although note that you can only transfer in increments of 1,000).
On the other end of the spectrum, a water villa at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort would only cost 31,667 Membership Rewards per night.
The rate gets even better if you book in five night increments seeing as you get the fifth night free on award stays so long as you have Silver status or higher. That would mean a five night stay at the Hilton Sharm would only cost 1,333 Membership Rewards per night, while the Conrad Maldives would only cost 25,333 Membership Rewards per night.
I wouldn’t make any speculative transfers simply due to this transfer bonus, but if you’re sitting on a large pile of Membership Rewards and have a Hilton redemption in mind, taking advantage of the 1,000:3,000 rate might make sense. Just be aware of the terms stating that the bonus could take up to eight weeks to hit your account. Edit: Fernando has commented below that he received the bonus points immediately.
[…] Membership Rewards To Hilton Transfer Bonus – 1,000:3,000 Or 1,000:2,600 (Targeted) (Expires 12/31/18) […]
I was at a loss as to how I was going to use my 57,000 MR points, so I transferred it to Hilton. Not enough points for a good airline redemption for a family of four, so we’re much more likely to use them for hotels.
If you figure Hilton points are worth 0.5 cpp the 3x bonus is 1.5cpp which is reasonable.
Even at 1000:3000 isn’t this a downgrade from MR points?
Based on the Reasonable Redemption Value of 0.45cpp, it wouldn’t be good value. However, I’ve gotten more than 1cpp of value from Hilton stays before, so it makes more sense in that scenario.
I’m sitting on a large balance of Hilton points so I won’t be taking advantage of this transfer bonus even though I was targeted, but 1,000:3,000 would tempt me if my balance was low.
Datapoint – mine transferred instantly, 3x. Note that though the points arrived instantly, the activity entry is still missing, a few hours after the deed.
That’s great to know – thank you!
Same here. Instant transfer of 1000 MR = 3000 HH
