A few weeks ago Capital One Travel ran some amazing flight deals that could get you free or almost free flights. They’re now offering new deals on flights, hotel stays and car rentals which aren’t anywhere near as generous, but are worth being aware of in case any of the destinations or companies match up with travel you need/want to book.

Quick Thoughts

This sale has the potential to offer some good savings. If the flight and rental car prices are comparable to those found directly or through other OTAs, getting the $100 or $25 savings respectively on top of up to 5x or 10x miles respectively from Capital One for booking through their travel portal is appealing.

The hotel savings could be substantial too. For example, a two night stay at the Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi is ringing up at $138 per night before tax through Capital One Travel versus $160 per night before tax booked directly with Hyatt for a somewhat similar cancellation policy.

Capital One Travel - Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi

Not only is that price through Capital One Travel cheaper, but that’s before the 40% discount is applied. With the 40% discount applied, the total cost for two nights before taxes and fees is only $165.74 via Capital One which almost works out to be a BOGO deal versus the rate available when booking directly with Hyatt.

There are a couple of caveats with this though. First, this was a hotel picked entirely at random, so I wouldn’t necessarily expect to get such great value at every hotel in Abu Dhabi, or at hotels in other eligible cities – especially seeing as other cities are only discounted by 10%-20%.

The other key thing to consider is that Capital One Travel will be looked upon by hotel chains as any other OTA. That means that you won’t earn elite night credits on hotel stays, nor receive elite status benefits. If you’re able to save ~50% on your stay, those savings could be worth it. However, for others the value received from room upgrades, free breakfast, lounge access, etc. by booking directly might outweigh the savings via this Capital One Travel sale.
