Quick Thoughts
Hyatt points are quite valuable, so earning more points is obviously better than fewer. I’m usually not very excited about these promotions that begin with your second stay, but in this case I’m actually checking out of a Hyatt hotel on the day this promotion begins, so I believe I’ll be set for double points on any other Hyatt stays through December 15th (if only I had some booked!).
I am particularly happy to see the fact that Hyatt Place properties will earn triple points through this promotion. My biggest gripe with the Hyatt program has been that I didn’t mind going out of my way to stay at a Hyatt Place back when I could qualify for elite status based on stays. Now that 60 nights are required, I’ve often said that the problem is that Hyatt Place and Hyatt House have long made up the majority of the chain’s footprint and there is absolutely no benefit at those properties for elite members since everyone (who books directly) gets breakfast and there often aren’t upgraded rooms. Still, I like Hyatt Place, especially now that we travel with a baby (the extra space is really helpful). Offering triple points at those properties is a way to reward members for choosing to go out of their way to be loyal to Hyatt, and I think that’s a good thing.
I’m not sure that double or triple points will be enough to get me to change plans in terms of my stays during this period, but I’ll certainly keep an eye out for opportunities to take advantage. Keep in mind that this deal will stack with other current promotions like:
- Easy 500 Hyatt points with app booking
- 2 New Hyatt Promos: Earn 2,000 Bonus Points At Hyatt Centric & At New Hyatt Brands
- 2 More Hyatt Promos: At Select Properties Save 25% On Points + Cash Or Get Up To 25% Points Rebate On Free Nights
- Hyatt Cardholders: Spend $500+ At Hyatt Ziva & Hyatt Zilara & Get $250 Statement Credit
- Double elite nights at Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara
- Extra 500 Hyatt points per night at select properties (some of these are Hyatt Place properties)
[…] double points at all Hyatt and M life properties or triple points at Hyatt Place properties. (See: New Hyatt promo: double or triple points). The important thing to note with that particular promotion is that the bonus points are only […]

On a side note, has anyone seen hyatt’s Booking portals to engage in dynamics pricing? I’ve seen different rates for the exact same stay between mobile and desktop websites.
I read the FAQ, but I’m unclear on whether this is 2x/3x on base points only or if, for example, the Globalist tier bonus (30% would be tripled).
If it included the tier bonus, that could be interesting. That would be 19.5 points per dollar (23.5 points if you pay with World of Hyatt CC).
Can you buy Hyatt GCs at Hyatt Place? That would be a substantial discount depending on how you value Hyatt points (it’s pretty easy to get 1.75 to 2 cpp value) Annoying that Hyatt GCs can’t be used internationally though.
The tier bonus is based on the base points, so you’d only earn the 30% bonus on the base 5x rather than the 15x sadly.
With regards to gift cards, many Hyatt Place properties sell them. I’m not sure if you can have them charged to the room though rather than paying for them separately. That’s a great idea though if it did work.
Interesting promotion, yes — and concur with your favorable take on Hyatt Place.
Curious though re. the value of “triple points” on stays. Been a while since I’ve actually paid direct cash for a Hyatt stay, (sic) so am a bit fuzzy on the value of points earned per stay. (er, per dollar spent) So that’s 5 pts per dollar, no? and with 3x, that’s 15x per $ spent. Curious though this promotion includes “reward stays” — as in stays paid with points (not cash). So no 3x there. (?) Presume the value of including the rewards stays is that one can count as your first night, before the 3x kicks in on your paid stays. Am I missing something there?
So after the first night, each $100 base stay at a HP would net 1,500 Hyatt points. (nice to be sure – worth between $25-30)…..
I figure Hyatt points are worth 2c each. If that then 15x is 30c per dollar spent at Hyatt Places, and 10x is 20c per dollar spent. Or 30% off, 20% off, sort of.
I have the same question and not sure we have an answer? how are 3X points calculated and earned on stays paid for with points? The terms and conditions state these count in the promotion – but what is the calculation?? I am confused.
Does this mean instead of 5 base points as a member, you’d get 10 or 15 points?
Yes.
Check the post. The second bullet doesn’t have “Hyatt Place.” Other mistakes too.
Thanks. I’ve fixed that.
