Quick Thoughts
Keep in mind that Delta has eliminated change/redeposit fees for flights originating in North America, so there is little risk to booking if you have Delta SkyMiles on hand since you could reevaluate when travel dates approach. Obviously the travel environment remains fluid and likely will as we head into fall / winter, but with no penalty for cancellation this seems like a good opportunity for those who want to place a (refundable) bet on international travel.

If you plan to continue on past MAD, etc., it’s best to consider the covid-related transit rules for your final destination.
Not sure what “originating in North America means …” The return flights must come from Europe. Are they originating in North America if one purchases a RT fare?
Yes, they are considered originating in North America if you purchase a RT fare where the first flight departs from North America
JFK – BCN is also an option Oct thru 1st week of March.
Thanks. I find random award deals to Europe on Delta now and then. A couple weeks ago, snagged economy nonstop BOS FCO for 44k RT. Id always take a nonstop over comfort+ with connections. Same flights nonstops are 60k this eve. Got BOS LIS nonstop couple years ago for 35k.
BTW those examples above with 18h-19hrs duration, are NOT worth it, except for the most frugal.
Is comfort plus worth it?
I have no idea but I’d probably pay 4,000 SkyMiles each way to find out. Especially because of the class of service bonus for MQMs if you’re flying this year. https://frequentmiler.com/shortcuts-to-delta-elite-status-in-2021/
C+ is 3″ extra Legroom. For me at 6’1″ its OK and probably worth at 4k/ $50. MQM for status is fine, like Nick says.
Thanks guys as always.
I booked it for 32000 nonstop Jfk mad 10 days ago. Will try to change it tomorrow
Thanks again.
