Save 30% on Amazon (up to $30) when using $0.01 in Amex rewards dollars

1

We’ve frequently seen Amazon offer discounts when using at least one American Express Membership Rewards point to pay, and we’ve seen similar deals from other card issuers. Doctor of Credit is reporting that Amazon is currently offering a similar deal to American Express Blue Cash and Magnet cardholders when redeeming at least $0.01 in rewards dollars at checkout. These deals are sometimes targeted, so it is possible that you won’t be eligible and/or that you may be targeted for a slightly different version of the deal.

The Deal

  • Amazon is offering 30% off (up to $30) when you use at least $0.01 in Amex rewards dollars at checkout
  • Direct link to this deal (our affiliate link)

Key Terms

  • The promotion will end on the earlier of (a) 5:00 pm PT on 9/30/2024 or (b) the time at which 23,333 customers have redeemed the offer. The promotion button will expire concurrently.
  • Offer is available by invitation only, is non-transferable, is not redeemable for cash, and may not be resold.
  • This offer only applies to eligible products. Eligible products are products sold and shipped by Amazon.com (including discounted promotional items sold and shipped by Amazon.com). Products sold by third-party sellers or other Amazon entities are not eligible, even if they are fulfilled by Amazon.com or Prime eligible. Digital content products are also not eligible.
  • Maximum benefit you may receive from this offer is a $30 discount per Eligible Card Member or per one Amazon account.
  • Offer discount will be allocated proportionally among eligible products in your order. If any of the items in your order are subsequently returned, your refund will equal the original price of the product, less the proportional amount of the discount.

Quick Thoughts

It’s nice to see this deal come around for those who have Amex cash back cards. If you have an Amex card that earns cash back but it isn’t currently linked to your Amazon account, you can try adding the card as a payment method and enabling the ability to use rewards at checkout. Then check back in a few days — people sometimes report being targeted for this type of pay-with-rewards deal a couple of days after linking up a qualifying card (and I see a success report to that effect in the comments at Doctor of Credit).

I added an Amex cash back card to my amazon account and enrolled it the day I saw this post. I checked each day since to see if I was eligible, and it said no. Then, this afternoon I clicked the link one more time and was able to add the promotion. In my case, it took 3-4 days to be “targetted” but I’m glad I checked one last time.
