Targeted 250K Business Platinum card offer via mail for some

15

Amex marches on with the points parade, hopefully coming soon to a mailbox near you.

A few members of our Frequent Miler Insiders group have reported receiving a snail mail Business Platinum card offer from Amex good for 250,000 Membership Rewards points with a hefty spend requirement of $30,000 within the first 6 months. That’s the highest offer I’ve ever seen for the Business Platinum and though it requires a lot of spend it could be a great haul for someone who can meet the requirement.

Quick Thoughts

The $30K spending requirement will obviously be a non-starter for some, but for those who can meet the spending requirement, the bonus here is terrific, particularly if you maximize Amex’s foreign airline partners for high-value sweet spot awards.

This one comes with a large intro APR offer as well as seen in the screen shot, which could be handy if you need some time to stretch out purchases / payment. As an example idea of how to spend that much, I bought a car earlier this year and put $25K on an Amex Platinum card to take down a large bonus. Given the intro APR period here, that could be particularly appealing for some. You’d obviously need to get approved with a high enough pay over time limit to accommodate that, though my wife was recently approved for an additional Business Platinum card with a pay over time limit that would easily accommodate the spending requirement (YMMV of course).

This offer obviously wouldn’t make sense if it would mean diverting spend that you would otherwise put toward additional bonuses, but for the target market, this is a really strong offer. At a base level, the 250,000 points could be cashed out via the Schwab Platinum card for $2,750 in cash — a return of better than 9.1%. Obviously they can be leveraged for far more with transfer partners (just last week, I transferred about 200K points to Air France to book my family of 4 in business class one way from Europe to the US (with about $85 in taxes per passenger).

Overall, between this and the targeted Business Gold offer, Amex just keeps showering people with opportunities to pile up points. Here’s hoping they send a little love your way.
