Could you re-pack everything you need in a sedan and move every 5 days? Could you do it with your spouse? For five years? In this week in review around the web, read about what that’s like. Meanwhile, we hve a great tip for getting an award night when the hotel doesn’t have standard rooms available, tips for visiting the Norwegian Fjords via cruise, and a congratulatory note for all of you redeeming points and miles.
The Ultimate Road Trip: Marriage Edition “6 Months In & No One’s Dead”
“I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.” That tidbit from Mark Twain is on a collage my wife made me after our second months-long trip together almost a decade ago. We’ve since added numerous more trips — but none as ambitious as that of our own Stephen Pepper and his wife Shae. The Peppers are six months into an epic 5-year, 50-state road trip. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel with a partner for months on end, packing it all up every few days in search of the next adventure? I found this piece that Shae wrote at their blog No Home Just Roam to be a relatable, refreshing, and touching look at the highs and lows of an incredibly ambitious endeavor.

A suggestion that seems silly in its simplicity, yet I know for a fact can work. We frequently get questions about whether this or that will work — and this type of post from Miles Per Day is exactly why I always tell readers that you hit 0% of the balls at which you do not swing. You won’t hit a home run every time, but you might as well get a mitt and get in the game.
When Doing Too Many Deals Ends Up Costing You
Organization has become a hot topic in my household over the past couple of months. Between caring for a tiny human who needs near constant attention and all of the other things that have to get done in a day, it’s easy to slip up and forget to deposit that money order or whether or not you’ve yet hit the $10K spend on your Ritz card or if you remembered to use all of your store credits from a deal. Mark at Miles to Memories tells just such a tale. My wife and I have been working on incorporating Google Sheets into our daily routine, and Mark’s story was good reinforcement for what we’re doing.
6 NORWEGIAN FJORDS CRUISE TIPS: HOW TO CRUISE TO NORWAY THE RIGHT WAY
Do you remember the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull, the volcano in Iceland, that closed most of the airports in Western Europe for a few days back in 2010? I landed in Berlin for a 3-month stay a few hours before the airports closed. When they re-opened, Ryanair ran a sale for 3 Euros each way to many cities, one of which was Oslo. I didn’t know anything at all about Norway before that…which is why I think my wife’s photo album from that trip was titled “Norway – plundered and pillaged for every last cent”. It turned out that 3 Euros each way was where “cheap” abruptly ended. And so even though I wouldn’t consider myself a cruise person, I read this post at SightDOING with interest — this could certainly make for a much more affordable trip to the Fjords without sacrificing much from the sounds of it. If Norway is on your bucket list, you’ll want to check this out.
Credit card super-users take a $330 million bite out of JP Morgan’s revenue
Congratulations to you — and to everyone learning how to use credit card rewards to your benefit. You’ll note that while this article certainly does indicate that people are getting smarter about how they use credit card rewards and redeeming them for a sizable chunk of value, it also notes the massive profits still coming in. That’s good news for all of us — a good reminder that this business model is here to stay — so let’s keep taking our bite of the pie.
That’s it for this week around the web. Check back soon for this week’s last chance deals.
