Quick Thoughts
This is a nice deal because you could stack it with 5x on a Chase Ink Cash (or Ink Plus, which is no longer available for new applicants) or use another card that eanrs one of the Best Category Bonuses at office supply stores.
It would also stack with the Current Amex Offer available on some business cards for 10% back at Staples, dropping the net cost of a $100 gift card down to just $81. That’s about as good as it gets on a Lowe’s discount (and gift cards can of course stack with coupons).
If you’re interested, I suggest buying sooner rather than later as this will likely sell out in hours.
H/T: Doctor of Credit
Thanks, Nick! We are in the process of redoing my wife’s bathroom. We have three Staples accounts so we bought nine $100 gift cards and saved $90. Then I have the Hilton 10% Staples promo on my card so saved $81. Then we bought five 10% off Lowe’s coupons on eBay for $3.99. Purchase on Lowe’s was $881.75 so we saved $88.18 using that. Also 4% back on ebates so $31.74. Total savings $268.68 if my math is correct.
Couple of things, though. The Hilton promo states “Only U.S.-issued American Express® Business Cards are eligible to enroll.” This isn’t a business card but it shows on the account. Also says “Not valid for gift cards in bulk purchases.” Are we OK there?
If you have the 10% back Amex offer loaded to that card, it should work. I haven’t seen this offer on personal cards — are you sure you don’t have it loaded on the Hilton business card? If the offer in your account says “business cards”, I’m guess it’s a business card you have.
As for bulk purchases, I think they mean a corporate bulk gift card purchasing program. For example, if you owned a store and you wanted to buy Staples gift cards in bulk to sell them on a rack in your store, Staples has a bulk purchasing program for that. Five or ten gift cards isn’t a bulk purchase. Should be fine there.
Thanks, Nick. If I go to the Amex web site and click on my Hilton Honors card it shows added to card down below (along with Dell). If I click on my Hilton Honor Business card down below shows 0 added to card. I would have liked it on the Business card because I could have used it for the spend towards my 125,000 points.
10% credit of $81 has been posted to my Hilton Honors card. I was just expecting a statement credit.
Never used a portal before but read about them. Is there a Chase (UR) portal for extra points on top of the Ink Cash/Plus 5x?
Is there a good way to liquidate lowe’s gift card?
You can either sell it to a gift card resale site or use it for a nice discount.
Thanks Nick for the prompt reply.
Can u use lowes gift cards to buy other 3rd party gift cards, like olive garden or outback?
No
