$15 Instant Rebate on $300 in Visa Gift Cards at OfficeMax/Office Depot

Through October 15, OfficeMax and Office Depot are offering an instant $15 rebate on $300 or more in Visa gift card purchased in-store.

The Offer

Save $15 instantly when you buy $300 or more in Visa gift cards.

Key Terms

  • In-store only.
  • Limit two offers per household/business.
  • Discount is taken at the register.
  • Valid October 9th – 15th

Which Cards?

As you may know, variable load up to $500 Visa gift cards are cash only at Officemax/Office Depot. Fortunately fixed value cards, and those with top value of $200 or less, can still be purchased with a credit card. Most stores carry $200 fixed value Visa gift cards that work well with this promotion.

Visa gift cards sold by Officemax/Office Depot are issued by Metabank. For more info on setting the pin on these cards and liquidating them, see: Beginner’s guide to buying & liquidating Visa & Mastercard gift cards.

Note that in the past it was possible to exceed the promotions terms in a single transaction, but that no longer works today.  For example, if you buy $600 in one transaction, you should get $30 off the total.  However, unlike in the past, if you buy $900 in one transaction, your total discount will still be limited to $30.

[…] with lots of small denomination debit gift cards.  OfficeMax frequently runs deals, such as “$15 off $300 or more in Visa gift cards.”  And Staples frequently offers Easy Rebates where the $15 or so rebates come in the form […]

my OD just posted Cash ONLY for gift cards above $100″ geez

Only 100 and under left at my OM. The variable load Visas are only good for gas, fashion or restaurants. Since this runs until Sat, is there a way to check inventory online?

Nope. Have you asked employees to help you find more? Occasionally theyll “dig” for you and help you find some more. And I do mean dig if you know what I mean. And if you dont, then ask another employee until one helps you find the additional cards. Then youll know what I mean.

2 things:

1) Im seeing theyre a lot stricter on the deal this time around. Better training their employees/managers to only allow $600 max purchase, whereas last time it was easy to do $1200 per visit in two transactions as they didnt read the offer carefully (it says limit two per person, but its limit 2 purchases of $300/person)… If I found a clueless manager before I would do 3 purchases. Not seeing those now, so its clear better training was given.
2) I saw them reload their Visas a few weeks ago when they were offering the mastercard deal. Now Im seeing them reload their Mastercards including a new variable amount card that Ive never seen before. Has anyone tried liquidating the variable amount Mastercards? Biz as usual with those or is there something to know?

Tried 3 of the $200 Visa’s here at OM, and no discount given. Will go back and try 2 300’s if I get a chance. I’m in Maui, HI, if it matters. There’s no ODs here, both still OM.

Noticed there were no fixed value $200 cards at my local OD, just lots of $100’s and $50’s. I was disappointed at first as I thought I was a day late and others had raided all the inventory.

Then I noticed for the first time some $20-200 variable load cards. I figured it was worth a shot. Had the cashier ring up 3 of those at $200 values. The $30 discount was taken off and my out the door price was $590.85. Hooray!

Found a bunch of $20-$500 visa cards (cash only) at my local OM but they were not coded for the discount/bonus this time, just the $20-$200 cards…The manager couldn’t figure out why they were not working and he could not override the system despite trying hard…bummer…would have been an easy on the spot 3% gain….

DP: I just went to 2 separate Office Depots this morning and the offer worked seamlessly. I bought 3x$200 Visa GCs and my receipt total is $590.85 (which means it took off $30). I’ve read somewhere that this offer may not be working at OfficeMax. I’m located in SoCal

I’m in SoCal too and the Office Depot and OfficeMax I went to took for the $30 dollars.

Are you the one buying up all the cards in LA? Cant find em anywhere. And the one store that had em yesterday would only let me do one purchase of $600, whereas last time they let me easily do 2 purchases of $600…

Have you tried the Dining Everywhere VGC in our area? Can we unload in WM or Meijer?

And just as important, what region are you in?

same. i just bought 3 x $200 and no discount was taken off. wtf. no signage either.

You guys should try putting in your reward. Mine did not show the discount, but after I put in my reward number/telelphone, it immediately took off the $30 dollars.

Just went to office max. Bought $600 (3 × 200) worth of visa gift cards and did not receive any discount. Manager had no knowledge of any discount

Try buying 2x $200. Had the same outcome w/ 3x $200, but got $15 off with 2x $200.

DP : The $20-$200 variable visa gift cards are NOT cash only.

Just completed a transaction at my OD and had an odd thing happen. I planned to purchase $600 (3x $200) but the register didn’t automatically give the discount leaving a total of 620.xx. When the manager removed one of the cards (2x $200) I received the $15 discount ($7.50 per card). Very odd and not how it worked during the similar promo several weeks ago. Still paying under face value, so I’ll keep buying.

Went to a different OD and was able to get 3x $200 with the discount. Not sure why it didn’t work at the other store.

Thx for the heads up. This is relatively scaleable if the cashier plays ball.
