Quick Thoughts
Be sure to note the eligible properties for both the offers as it’s a slightly different lineup compared to some past MGM Amex Offers due to ownership changes, etc.
Both these Amex Offers provide the opportunity to save up to 20% on your stay. If your stay will cost $800+ at the ‘Select Destinations’ or $1,400+ at the ‘Luxury Destinations’ and your partner has the same offers on their cards, you can ask the hotel to split the cost on the two cards to double up on the $80 and $140 statement credits respectively.
These can make Las Vegas mattress runs – or actual stays – even more worthwhile for those working on the Hyatt status fast track. If you already have Gold status with MGM Resorts, you won’t get charged resort fees which can make stays at MGM Resorts properties much better value and a potentially very cheap way to earn those Hyatt elite night credits thanks to Hyatt’s partnership with MGM. Saving at least an additional $80 would be the icing on the cake.
Remember that MGM lets you charge meals, etc. from one property to your folio at another property. For example, if you booked a stay at Excalibur because it was the cheapest option and went to Aria for their buffet, you could charge the buffet to your room at Excalibur. That makes it much easier to hit the spending thresholds for these Amex Offers if you managed to book particularly cheap rooms.
Sadly, Aria buffet is closed and was replaced with a food hall.
My wife will be sad – she loved the Aria buffet!
Will a stay at the Signature at MGM qualify for Hyatt? I thought the units were individually owned but it definitely is bookable through MGM and the price is great for the dates I am considering.
The individually owned units are in tower 1 and 2. Tower 3 are rooms bookable via MGM website. Booking through MGM for a stay at Signature will qualify for Hyatt.
Any way to combine this Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts $200 cash back, other than to book back to back reservations?
It might be possible. You’d have to book the stay with your Platinum card for FHR, but when checking out you might be able to get them to put any room charges on whichever card you’ve loaded the Amex Offer to. If you can load the Amex Offers to your Platinum card, you wouldn’t need to change the payment card at check-out and I don’t see why it wouldn’t trigger the offer.
Thanks for the quick response. Just noting that in the offer, it indicates it has to be booked through mgmresorts.com, so do you think if I booked through FHR to get the benefits of an FHR booking I’d still get the Amex offer credit of $80 on $400 or $140 on $700?
And yes, I have both offers on my platinum card.
Hmm…good point. I think it would still trigger the offer though; I think the “direct booking” is more to ensure people don’t think it’ll get triggered by an Expedia booking or something like that. I’m not 100% certain though.
Thanks, I’ll let the FM crowd know if I change my current reservation and try and take advantage of this stacking opportunity!
I tried using this promo in the past for separate stays unsuccessfully. Tried using the BBP for separate $100 stays 4 times and it was not successful in linking the combined stays. Just fyi for folks doing a mattress run
i think the t&c say 1 or more transactions so as long as you spend over 400 within offer time period it trigger the amex credit ?
what is the best hotel (or hotels) in the select destination category?
