American Express Membership Rewards is offering a 20% transfer bonus when transferring points to Qantas Frequent Flyer through 6/30/19. If you were targeted for Qantas’ own 15% to 30% transfer bonus (details here), the two bonuses should stack. For example, one could transfer 100,000 Membership Rewards points into 120,000 Qantas points. Then, if targeted, you would get 15% more for a total of 138,000 Qantas points.
The Deal
- Get a 20% transfer bonus when transferring Amex Membership Rewards to Qantas Frequent Flyer by 6/30/19
- With this bonus, 1,000 Membership Rewards = 1,200 Qantas points
- If you were also targeted for Qantas’ 15% to 30% transfer bonus (details here), the two bonuses should stack.
Key Details
- Valid through 6/30/2019
Quick Thoughts
Qantas can be great for short awards on American Airlines that require connections. Qantas can also be a great option for awards on El Al, so those looking to travel to Israel can benefit from a new transfer partner. Dan’s Deals has a good post on using Qantas points for travel on El Al. With this transfer bonus, those opportunities become even better.
For those who were targeted for Qantas’ own 15% to 30% transfer bonus (details here), the deal is good enough to consider transferring points prospectively. A 20% bonus with a 15% bonus combines to a 38% bonus. In general I don’t recommend transferring points without a specific near term use in mind. Even with a combined 38% bonus I wouldn’t recommend it without a near term plan unless you are certain that you can use those points towards good value in the future.
