Yesterday, a reader made us aware of a sale he saw at Office Max / Office Depot. While the sale he shared was available in-store only, it helped me stumble on a couple of interesting online-only offers as well. Information on both promotions follows:
Offer 1 (In-store)
The Offer
- $10 instant savings on $50 in select gift cards (Cabela’s, Domino’s, AMC Movie theaters, Groupon)
Key Terms
- Limit 1 discount offer per household/business
- Can mix and match any combination of the above brands for $50 in GCs to get the discount
- Valid until June 17th, 2017
Quick Thoughts
This is a nice little discount that would be best combined with the current $10 back on $50 or more Amex Offer. While I typically prefer to use a card that gets a good category bonus at office supply stores, any card with the $10 back on $50 Amex Offer would effectively give you $60 in gift cards for $40 (you would need to buy $60 in GCs to trigger both the Office Max instant $10 discount and still spend $50 to trigger the $10 Amex Offer). While $10 off of $50 on its own is only a 20% discount, the Amex Offer helps to bump that up to 33% savings, which is a good deal if you have a use for those gift cards.

Offer 2 – Online Coupons
- Various coupons available at officedepot.com (use incognito mode to cycle to your preferred coupon)
- Coupons I’ve seen include: $10 off of $30 (excludes a lot of products), 25% off your total purchase (also several exclusions), and a Free $15 Darden Restaurant Gift Card with $100 Minimum Purchase (which appears to have no exclusions).
Key Terms
- Expires at 11:59pm Eastern time on June 10th, 2017
How to Get It
Go to www.officedpot.com. At the top of the page, you’ll see a banner advertising a coupon as seen below:
If you don’t like the coupon offer you see there, try incognito mode or private browsing. I’ve seen the following three offers (there may be more):
Which coupon is the best?
This will totally depend on what you’re buying. In my opinion, the first two coupons aren’t very good. The $10 off of $30 coupon has so many exclusions that I’m not sure which products qualify for that one. The 25% off coupon sounds nice, but it excludes technology, appliances, and ink and toner (fewer exclusions than the $100 off of $30, but still excludes a lot). Furthermore, it is valid on regularly-priced items only. That limits its effectiveness in my opinion — but if you make the right find it could turn out to be a pretty good coupon.
The third coupon is the one I would be most likely to use — a free $15 Darden Restaurants gift card with a $100 purchase (Darden = Olive Garden, Longhorn Steakhouse, Yard House, The Capital Grille, and a few other brands). There appear to be no exclusions, meaning that I think it would work even if you were buying $100 in Office Depot Gift Cards. Unfortunately, they do not appear to sell any other gift cards online. I don’t know whether or not you can use an Office Depot gift card to buy more gift cards in-store. Even if not, it’s probably not a bad deal — especially if you’re able to stack it with an Amex Offer. If you actually have merchandise to buy and you have the Amex Offer on more than one card, you could probably buy two $50 Office Depot gift cards (getting $10 back on each from Amex). Then, use those two gift cards with the coupon code to buy $100 in merchandise. In the end, you would have spend $80 out of pocket and gotten $100 in merchandise + a $15 Darden gift card (and maybe some portal rewards). That’s pretty decent if you need to buy stuff from Office Depot.
Here are the terms and conditions listed with all three of those coupons:

General Terms: Office Depot coupons are good for one-time use only, are not transferable and are not for resale or auction. Valid for in-stock items only. Not combinable with other offers or promotions. While supplies last. No rain checks. No cash back. Void where prohibited. We reserve the right to limit quantities sold to each customer/household or business. Coupons that are valid online expire at 11:59:59 PM ET on the advertised expiration date.

Final Word
Both the in-store and online offers are decent for saving a few bucks. Either one becomes significantly better with the Amex Offer. Note that there may be more than those three coupons available — if you find any other interesting coupons, let us know in the comments!
